Photos of Wat Mahathat

Wat Phra Mahathat was built in the period of Bao Ruomalajia I. The main tower was about 40 meters high. It was also one of the earlier Khmer-style pagodas built in Ayutthaya, but now only the base at the bottom is left. Traces of stucco decoration can be seen faintly on the stupa. A luxuriant banyan tree was born on the collapsed palace wall, and the Buddha's head in the wall just slipped into the root of the tree. As time went on, the Buddha's head was firmly embraced by the root, which was very interesting.
