Nagoya City is associated with Osaka Castle, and Kumamoto Castle is collectively known as "the three most famous cities in Japan." Nagoya Castle was built in 1612 by Tokugawa Ieyasu. It was destroyed by the Second World War and the surviving buildings were restored in 1959. The biggest feature of Nagoya City belongs to his more than 2,000 cherry trees. Among them, the Tianshou Pavilion is the place where the Tokugawa family lived. It is accessible from the avenue on the right side of the main entrance.
