The history of Hough Church can be traced back to about 750 years, when it was first built as a Roman church, built on the site of the ancient faith center of St. Leodiga. The church was transformed into Gothic style in the 14th century. It was destroyed by fire in 1633, and then rebuilt in 1645, presenting the architectural style of the late Renaissance. The towering steeple of the church is unique in shape and the most striking landmark along the lake in the old city.
