When I first visited Denmark, the Little Mermaid statue was at the top of my list, because I knew that my mother visited it many years before. It was smaller than I imagined, but was worth seeing. My friends and I walked there on a very cold night, and we were some of the only people viewing it. We climbed down to get closer to it, which may not have been possible (or advised) if more visitors were there. On another trip to Denmark I was also able to view it from a canal tour that took off from Nyhavn. It is a fine tribute to Copenhagen's Hans Christian Andersen.
