De Waag

The red brick building, the conical roof is like a shrinking castle. I heard that it used to be a place for the weight of goods, but it is certainly impossible now. There are two restaurants on the ground floor, but it is still early and has not yet opened.

Waag, built in 1488, is the oldest existing gate in Amsterdam. The front square once had the function of Beijing vegetable market entrance. Because it was adjacent to the canal, it was changed into a weighing house in the 17th century, where all goods were weighed and taxed. Later, some trade unions (not trade unions) rented houses upstairs as negotiation rooms. In 1619, the Amsterdam Surgical Association was there, and Rembrandt had a famous painting, Dr. Dull's Anatomy Course, hanging here. The painting is now in the Royal Museum of Art in the Hague

Built in 1488 as part of the moat, the Gateway, formerly known as St. Anthony's Gate, was located in the New Market Square (Nieuwmarkt). Until 1614, with the continuous expansion of the city, the Gateway was transformed into a Gateway House and the guild headquarters. In the 17th century, the first floor was a weighing room, and the second floor was a variety of guild venues. Rembrandt's famous work "Doctor Dulp's Anatomy Class" depicted the scene where the surgeon guild was taking classes at that time. The weighing room has now been converted into a restaurant. It's just that I didn't visit it carefully, and I felt that the appearance was quite characteristic.

An old building in Amsterdam has now been converted into a cafe. The red colour is still very conspicuous. It can sit in an outdoor seat. There is a small square in front of it and there are many bars around it.

The pound room has now been changed to a restaurant, but there will still be many small vendors selling some cute and cheap gadgets in the square around the pound room, and you can buy some good things there. The opening time is based on the time of the stall of the small vendor, not particularly fixed, generally 9:00-18:00
