Jia Yi (200 BC - 168 BC) was a native of Luoyang, Henan. A famous political commentator, writer and thinker in the Western Han Dynasty. Jia Yi's Former Residence, also known as Jia Taifu Temple and Jia Taifu's Former Residence, is located at No. 28 Taiping Street, Changsha City. In 177 BC, Jia Yi lived here when he was the Taifu of Changsha. The former residence of Jia Yi has always been an important place for the activities of officials and gentlemen. Every time it is repaired, a monument is engraved with a chronicle, which is described in detail. In 1938, the Changsha Wenxi fire destroyed the former residence, leaving only the Taifu Hall, the ancient well, the stone bed and the shrine. After the founding of New China, the restoration of Jia Yi's former residence was once stagnant, but the former residence was protected. The former residence of Jia Yi now covers an area of 1.22 mu. The building complex sits east to west and has a rectangular layout as a whole. It is divided into outdoor display and indoor display. The outdoor display includes: Jia Yijing, "Taifu Gujing" inscriptions, stone beds, etc. The indoor displays include: Jia Taifu Temple, Taifu Hall, Xunqiu Thatched Cottage, Stele Gallery, Peiqiu Pavilion, Ancient Stele Pavilion, etc. Through a large number of cultural relics, pictures and materials, Jia Yi's life and thoughts are vividly displayed. The former residence of Jia Yi is a key cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province and a provincial patriotism education base. Throughout the year, more than 100 theme-loving education activities and normalized voluntary service activities for minors were carried out, which were deeply loved by teachers and students.
