The New Zealand Effie Winery (Amisfield), which was visited by Prince William and Princess Kate of the United Kingdom, was founded in 1988 and is located in New Zealand's famous Central Otago, a grape-producing area in southern New Zealand. High latitudes, cool climates, long summers and clean soils allow the winery to produce some of New Zealand's best Pinot Noirs and aromatic white wines. The winery has an area of 200 hectares and is one of the larger vineyards in the central Otago region. Currently, over 80 hectares of land are planted with vines, most of which are over 10 years old. The winery uses sustainable farming methods and keeps yields low, so that the soils within the vineyard produce strong wines with exceptional concentration and complexity. The winery produces between 20,000 and 30,000 cases a year, of which Pinot Noir accounts for more than 60% of the total, with the rest being a balanced proportion of SauvignonBlanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
