　岩手銀行赤レンガ館や盛岡信金本店、そしてござ丸森九商店と、古い建物が建ち並ぶ通りを北へと向かうと、六角形の望楼がよく目立つレトロな建物がありました。それが、紺屋町番屋です。 　この建物は、1891年盛岡消防よ組番屋として現在地に建てられたものです。洋風の建物に望楼がアクセントになっていて、素敵な建物でした。
