Bakong Temple is located about 13 kilometers east of Siem Reap city. It is a large-scale and important temple in the Rollos group. It is also the national temple before the Khmer Kingdom moved its capital to Angkor Thong. It is used to worship Shiva and Linga. Once in ruins, it was roughly restored to its original appearance, with a five-story pagoda in the center of the top floor of the five-story square pyramid platform. Bakong Temple is far away from the urban area of Siem Reap and belongs to the "outer circle" tour route of Angkor Wat. Many people choose to come here in the evening, because the scenery of the vicissitudes of the temple and the green trees and flowers is particularly fascinating when the sun goes down. The temple is surrounded by three concentric walls and a moat, but the pagoda on the temple hill can be seen from a distance. A long walk leads to the east entrance, to the north is a newly built Buddhist monastery, in stark contrast to the ruined remains of Bakong. Many monks will pass scriptures here, and plant a lot of herbs and trees around. Walking into the Bakong Temple, there are many rocks and weeds on the grand square in front of the temple. You can find the remaining statues of Linga and Shiva, but they have changed beyond recognition. In addition to the main body of Miaoshan, there are many satellite temple towers made of bricks, most of which are also incomplete. Close to the main body of Temple Mountain, looking up at the towering pagoda at the top, it is very majestic. Entering from the stone gate at the bottom, you can climb the stairs to the five-level platform. These five levels represent the world of Naga, Garuda, Yaksha, Rakshasa and God. Stone lions can be seen on both sides of the stairs, but some have no heads, showing vicissitudes. The four corners of the platform are erected with stone statues of idols, but unfortunately they are not complete, and even the nose is missing. On the fourth platform are the low towers surrounding the central pagoda, and some parts still retain the original plaster relief. When you come to the central pagoda on the top floor, you can appreciate the immortal relief on the pagoda. Although it is seriously damaged and the repair marks are obvious, you can still feel the exquisite carving craftsmanship at that time. Standing on the top of the temple mountain overlooking the entire temple, you can understand its general layout.
There is a modern temple on the left of Bakong Temple, and the right is a cremation tower according to the folk... I think it is also worth a visit. Although I went to 11 attractions, there are more than 10 that have not been there. I think each is worth a look... Damei Angkor you are worth seeing.
This is one of the largest temples in the east of the city, with a long history and thousands of years of history. There are pagodas for people to pray, food for monks and visitors, and you can learn about the amazing architectural history at the temple. There are no service staff and mobile networks are limited, so don’t expect high quality enjoyment during your visit. Two things you must know, go to the temple and pray at the pagoda!
It is the first multi-storey temple mountain in the relics of Angkor, and the first temple in the Angkor dynasty to replace red brick with sandstone blocks, which is of great significance. It has been nearly 1,200 years since the beginning of the 20th century, and after years of efforts by French experts, the miracle of this near ruins was reproduced, so that the world could relive this ancient age. Full of respect
Bakong Temple (actually a group of temples) is one of the earliest Angkor temples in Siem Reap. It is located away from the others, but is still very well preserved. Take the ride through villages and country roads to get here - don't go via National Road 6.
In Cambodia, I really appreciate with that temple around Siem Reap even some really warming weather but pretty much just after stayed in that Temple.Small place of temple based in Bakong district, Siem reap
The Bakong has two firsts, the first temple in the capital of the Khmer dynasty to worship Shiva, the Hindu god, and the first temple in the Angkor dynasty to replace red brick with sandstone blocks. Among the many temples in the Angkor Relics complex in Cambodia, I like Bakong Temple the most, because the architectural style of Bakong Temple is greatly affected by the religious ideas of Java, so it is quite similar to Borobudur. Staying here makes me feel the prosperity and glory of the Khmer past!
The Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, the largest and most important temple in the ruins of Rollos, was established by King Indra Bama I of Angkor in 881. Once a large temple in the city center, its architectural style inherits the influence of Indonesian Borobudur characteristics. This is one of my favorite temples in Angkor, not because of his sculpture, but because of the atmosphere.
