It is a monument to the war dead such as the Boshin and Seinan Wars.
Original Text
Cross Maizuru Bridge, enter the ruins of the main enclosure, and on your left, there is a pillar of the historic site Uesugi Kenshin Koshido, and climb the stone steps that combine round stones. There was a plaza on a hill, and there was a monument to the shrine and a monument to invite the soul surrounded by a fence. A soul-inviting monument was built high in the sky at the end of the monument of the shrine. It was erected to commemorate the officers who died in the Boshin-Sansei War, and after that, the dead of the Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War are also enshrined.
A spirit who quietly congratulates the cherry blossoms

It is a memorial monument to the Yonezawa clan who died in the Boshin War and the Seinan War. 4 I visited in the middle of the month, but the cherry blossoms were proud to bloom around the Soul Monument, and the spirits seemed to be calmly watching the cherry blossoms, which made me feel solemn.
A large stone monument built at the site of Yonezawa Castle

When I went to Yonezawa from Yamagata, I saw this monument built on the site of Yonezawa Castle. It is a stone monument to commemorate those who died in the Boshin War and the Seinan War during the Meiji Restoration. As you can see in other towns, it may have been necessary to honor them especially because of their relationship with the new government.
A place where the soul is enshrined next to the Mido where Kenshin Uesugi was enshrined! !!

It is built on a hill in the southeast corner of Matsumisaki Park (Yonezawa Castle Ruins). It is a stone monument to commemorate the locals who died in the Boshin War and the Seinan War. Such memorial monuments can be seen in castle ruins and shrines, but the memorial monuments here were powerful and dedicated to the thickness of the letters written on the stone monument. The stone monument is tuff, the height 3.4m, and the total height including the pedestal is 5.8m. It's a very quiet place, but the remains of Kenshin Uesugi were placed right next to it. ...
I stopped by on a solo cycling trip. Although it is a memorial monument, it is very bright and lively with cherry blossom viewing around it. The cherry blossoms are also in full bloom and beautiful.
