岡山
Located in the north of Okayama Prefecture, on the border with Tottori Prefecture, Meisen Kagiyu Okutsuso stands on the banks of the Yoshii River. It is a 10-second walk from the Okutsu Onsen bus stop and about 25 minutes by car from Innosho IC on the Chugoku Expressway. This wooden inn with only eight rooms was designated a national registered tangible cultural property in November 2018. In the 1950s, the world-famous printmaker Shiko Munakata stayed here and left behind many works. Some of his works are on display throughout the building, and are popular with art fans. The biggest feature of Okutsuso is its own hot spring that "springs from under your feet." The bathtub is built where the hot spring springs from the bottom of the river, and is used as a bath in its natural state. The hot spring that springs from the bottom of the bath at 42.6 degrees is highly alkaline and has a pH of 9.2. It is said that there are only about 30 of these hot spring facilities out of the approximately 35,000 in Japan, and it boasts the finest spring quality. In 2014, a verification project was carried out to obtain medical evidence, and the results showed that bathing in or drinking the hot springs at Okutsuso boosts immunity. In addition to day trips, Okutsuso also offers a plan that includes use of the hot springs in the evening and dinner. You can enjoy their famous hot springs and meals for as long as time allows.
