Thailand is one of the best-known countries you could possibly travel to, should you wish for the archetypal 'paradise'. A beautiful and culturally diverse country, Thailand of course offers a wide range of experiences for visitors. Whether it's the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, a visit to one of the thousands of beautiful beaches, or munching on some of the ubiquitous street food, Thailand fulfils that ultimate cliche - it has something for everyone.

With the pandemic now firmly behind us, you can now really start to plan for your trip to Thailand from Europe. But where specifically should you head - and how easy is it to get there?

We've got you covered. If you're planning a trip to Asia's most popular tourist destination this year, here are six of the best places to visit - and as we're merely scratching the surface, be sure to download the Trip.com app and explore other places in Thailand you can visit…

Bangkok, the sprawling, gorgeous capital of Thailand, is arguably the most obvious must-see destination for anyone travelling to the country. But to be fair, it's easy to see why…

It's a vibrant and dynamic city, chock-full of culture, history, and famous (as well as infamous) entertainment. You can explore the many temples and palaces that dot the city, such as the Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Grand Palace. You can also meander through the many markets and shopping districts, where you can find everything from designer clothes to traditional Thai crafts.

In the evening, the city comes alive with a thriving nightlife scene that includes street food vendors, rooftop bars, and clubs.

Chiang Mai is a popular destination for travellers who want to experience the authenticity of Thailand.

The capital of the eponymous province is a beautiful city in the northern part of the country, well-renowned for its stunning natural scenery, cultural history (it was founded in 1296) and delicious food. Some of the best-known top attractions in Chiang Mai include the stunning Doi Suthep temple and the famous Night Bazaar, arguably the best-known of the many markets and street food stalls in the city.

Be sure to try some of the most delicious and authentic Thai food you could wish for in Chiang Mai…

With its gorgeous Old Town and world-famous beaches, it's easy to see why Phuket is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand.

The island - the largest in Thailand - is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, as well as a range of other attractions and activities. You can take a boat tour to explore the stunning limestone cliffs and hidden lagoons of Phang Nga Bay, or simply relax on one of the many beaches that line the coast. In the evening, night owls should definitely check out the nightlife scene in Patong, where you'll find everything you'd expect from Thai evening entertainment, from bars and clubs to street performers and night markets.

Outside of Phuket, Koh Samui is probably the most famous of the beautiful islands that lie off Thailand's coast. Like much of the country, the island is known for its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, but be sure to tour the lush tropical forests while visiting .

Otherwise, some of the top attractions in Koh Samui include the Big Buddha Temple, the Namuang Waterfall, and the Fisherman's Village. A Trip.com top tip: make sure you take a boat tour to explore the nearby islands and snorkel among the stunning coral reefs.

Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once the capital of Thailand. The reason for this lofty accolade? Well, the province - located just 76 km (47 mi) from the shiny new capital that is Bangkok - is home to some of the most stunning and well-preserved ancient ruins in the country, including the Wat Mahathat and the Wat Phra Si Sanphet.

At Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya - to give its full name - you can explore the many temples and ruins in the city by bike or on foot, and learn about the history and culture of this part of Thailand. Ayutthaya is also a great destination for foodies, with a range of street food stalls and restaurants serving up some of the most delicious Thai food.

If you're interested in history and culture, the ancient city of Sukhothai is a must-visit destination in Thailand. Home to the Sukhothai Historical Park, which is another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and includes the ruins of an ancient Thai capital.

Sukhothai translates to 'dawn of happiness' - we're pretty sure you'll understand why if you visit. You can explore the stunning temples and ancient city walls, including the famous Wat Mahathat, which features a large Buddha statue.
