Apr 5, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
* This event takes place during the Awesome Con convention. Participants must have an Awesome Con attendee badge to take part in the painting class. *
In this class we will be going over the basic steps to paint a miniature. This includes color/paint selection, basecoating, washes, and drybrushing. When the class is done students will not only take home a painted miniature of their very own as well as their own brushes, but will also know everything that they need to start painting characters of their own!
Each student will receive a pre-assembled Warhammer 40K space marine miniature and three miniatures painting brushes (one small detail brush, one medium detail brush, one drybrush) included with their registration.
About the Instructor
Stuart Bright painted his first miniature in 2019 after learning about Warhammer 40K. His interest started in wanting to have his army painted, but it quickly morphed into wanting to learn how to paint better and make cool art. Stuart now paints for competitions including Capital Palette, Resin Beast, and the Golden Demon. He's fascinated by the process where what starts as a 3d sculpture inside his head can come to life as part of the modeling and painting process and he is thrilled to share his students.

Washington D.C.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling in
Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard

Please join PPI and Bellwether for a panel discussion of whether “class, not race,” in college admissions offers a viable path for promoting social mobility and racial diversity.
Featured speakers include:
Richard D. Kahlenberg,
Director of the American Identity Project, Progressive Policy Institute and author of the new book,
Class Matters: The Fight to Get Beyond Race Preferences, Reduce Inequality and Build Real Diversity at America’s Colleges

Crosswinds from the Eastern Flank: U.S. Commitments to NATO in Trump 2.0 | Mortara Center for International Studies
Apr 10, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
This panel, hosted by the SSP Student Council and the Center for Security Studies at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, aims to shed light on the new administration’s policies towards the eastern flank of NATO. President Trump has already stated that NATO allies should increase their defense spending to up to 5% of their GDP and has introduced in the transatlantic conversation the idea of the U.S. withdrawing some of its troops from Eastern Europe.
These statements prompt uncertainty for the future of NATO: How do allies navigate this uncertainty of security arrangements, and what can we expect from the transatlantic alliance in the near future? What shall be the response from European allies, to assure that burden sharing objectives are met? We aim to find a response to these questions, and many others, by engaging in a discussion with distinguished experts from the think tank, political and academia environments.
The event will be opened by a keynote speech and Q&A from Romania’s Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency Andrei Muraru.
This discussion will be followed by an expert panel with the following speakers:
- Krista Viksnins, Program manager at CEPA - Center for European Policy Analysis;

National Press Club Headliners: "David Frost Vs" with Wilfred Frost | The National Press Club
Apr 10, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Join us at
6:00 p.m.
on
Thursday, April 10
for an American debut of an episode of the new documentary series
David Frost Vs
followed by a discussion with Frost’s son,
Wilfred Frost,
on his father’s career and interviews’ impact on journalism.
Drawing from an archive of over 10,000 era-defining interviews, many of which have been lost for a generation,
David Frost Vs
presents a fresh perspective on the battles of yesterday, which have striking parallels to today’s culture. Frost’s work shows the mid-to-late 20th century as a furnace of change and uncertainty that continues to permeate current affairs.
“I have learned an enormous amount, and I think our viewers will too. Dad’s archive allows us to go behind the scenes of key moments in our recent history and re-examine those moments in a deeply personal way from the mouths of the protagonists themselves at the moments in their lives when it really mattered,” said Wilfred Frost. The six-part documentary series was made in collaboration with Wilfred and will be aired by MSNBC Films starting April 27.
Doors to the National Press Club’s
Holeman Lounge open at 5:30 p.m.
to allow attendees time to order a drink from the bar and mingle. To submit a question in advance for the speaker, put
FROST
in the subject line and email it to
headliners@press.org
. The deadline for submitting questions in advance is 2 p.m. on the day of the screening.

An Evening with Nicole Rucker and Becky Krystal for FAT + FLOUR | Bold Fork Books
Apr 10, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Join Bold Fork Books and Nicole Rucker for an evening celebrating FAT + FLOUR: THE ART OF A SIMPLE BAKE while enjoying sweet & savory bakes from the book.
ABOUT THE COOKBOOK
A fuss-free, downright delicious collection of recipes for pies, cookies, brownies, cakes, and more—from “pastry queen” (
Bon Appétit
) Nicole Rucker, chef/owner of Los Angeles’s Fat + Flour
Fat + Flour
is a celebration of the delights that abound when these two simple ingredients come together. Famed for her rustic desserts, homespun pies, and unique flavor combinations, Nicole Rucker is revered as one of America’s best bakers, and in this baking bible she shares the accessible, unfussy recipes that made her name.
From Rucker’s legendary pies—White Chocolate Banana Cream Pie! Stone Fruit Party Pie!—to cookies (Boozy Banana Snickerdoodles!), bars (Abuelita Milk Chocolate Brownies!), loaf cakes (Zucchini and Date Loaf Cake!), and much more, the book is a treasure trove of treats (including not one, not two, but five different chocolate chip cookies, six kinds of brownies, six unique apple pies, and five distinctly different banana breads).
Rucker gives readers everything they need to make bakery-quality baked goods at home—but without the fuss, in part thanks to what she calls the Cold Butter Method, a low-effort technique for melding fat and flour that produces perfect cookies and the tenderest pie dough every time. A cookbook guaranteed to take your baking to the next level.
