Fine Art
Sunday Wine, Coffee and Tour After refreshments and remarks in the stunning sun-filled loggia, Adriana Ospina, director of the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA), and Pablo Zuñiga, former AMA director and current FAMA board member, will take us on an intimate tour of two exhibitions on two floors that illustrate the richness of AMA's collection. AMA is the first art museum in the United States primarily devoted to exhibiting works of modern and contemporary art from Latin America and the Caribbean. Intersections Exquisite works represent a breadth of print practices in Canada that push the boundaries of printmaking and represent, among others, the diverse voices of women and Indigenous artists, whose stories, identities and experiences have been erased and silenced in society. Transatlantic Encounters: Latin American Artists in Paris, 1920-1970 Works reveal the creative involvement of artists from Latin America who went to Paris in the years between 1920 and 1970, where they engaged with nearly every major modernist movement, including cubism, surrealism, and the different variants of abstraction that arose after World War II. This is a FAMA members-only event for supporters belonging to the Friends of the Art Museum of the Americas, and is limited to 25 guests. Make your reservation(s) today! If you or your guest are not current members of FAMA, you may purchase your membership in the ticket section (one for each person) of the Eventbrite page. Our three-year-anniversary fundraiser will deliver 100% of profits to MSMA! What is MSMA, you ask? Three years ago the Governor of Texas began busing asylum seekers to Washington D.C. from the border as part of a racist and cruel publicity stunt. In response, the D.C. community came together and formed Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid– a group of dedicated volunteers welcoming migrants arriving to the city. Three years later MSMA continues to support the many families who have chosen to make the DMV their home as they face federal and local barriers to resettlement. Our work has expanded since April 2022 and evolved to respond to the current attacks against the community. We’ve added an ICE Watch hotline to report sightings and arrests, accompaniment to ICE check-ins and court hearings, Know Your Rights presentations, all while continuing to provide monthly pro se asylum clinics, resettlement support for families moving out of shelters, perinatal support and grocery distribution. Your $20 ticket includes a special punch cup, your first drink and a MSMA sticker. More drinks will be available to purchase on site with cash, Venmo, Zelle or Cashapp. In an effort to be environmetally conscious we are asking you to hold on to your punch cup and use it for every drink purchase, there will be limited plastic cups available. US Foreign Policy in the Post Post-Cold War World | Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center, Room 258

Apr 29, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Conferences
Foreign policy during the Cold War served as a model for the US for decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but recent years have shown increased dissatisfaction with US international leadership and alliance management—whether you look at Obama's reduction in US commitment to NATO, Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan, or Trump's sharp breaks with NATO and challenges to international trade. Is international leadership no longer central to US security and prosperity? Or do the costs of leadership simply exceed the benefits? Does the US need to reduce its international role and commitments, or is this reduced international footprint a mistake? Join us for a talk with Frank Lavin (SAIS '90), where he will explore this question and other aspects of US foreign policy! About the Speaker Lavin served in the Reagan White House and National Security Council, the Bush 41 Commerce Department, and in the Bush 43 Administration, he served as US Ambassador to Singapore and Undersecretary for International Trade at the US Department of Commerce. In addition to his SAIS degree, he holds degrees from Georgetown (BScFS and MA Chinese) and Penn (MBA Finance). He discusses Cold War foreign policy in his latest book, Inside the Reagan White House . Information Source: Johns Hopkins SAIS Foreign Policy Institute (FPI) | eventbrite

Washington D.C.

We all want more productive and mission-driven teams, but the relentless pace and pressure of today's workplace takes a toll on everyone. When stress builds up, communication breaks down, priorities get fuzzy, and morale suffers. To thrive, we must recognize that mental health is corporate health. It shapes how we lead and how we synergize with our team. Every day, whether we realize it or not, we're influencing our team's mental wellbeing. Each meeting we run, policy we implement, and check-in we conduct either strengthens or weakens trust. So, how do we create environments where honest conversations can flourish, boosting adaptability, connection, and results? In this actionable FEDTalk, D r. Carylynn Larson shares the mindset shift and practical tools organizations need to build a professional ecosystem that encourages not only meaningful communication but also how to translate intent into action. Drawing from lived experience, powerful storytelling—including a conversation that changed her life—and decades of research in workplace psychology, she reframes mental health as a foundation for trust, engagement, and performance.
