Meininger Hotel Amsterdam City West

Proximity to Transport: The property is next to Sloterdijk station , offering easy access to Amsterdam Centraal and Schiphol Airport via train, tram, or metro.

The dorm was strange. It had a double bed in it and two travellers arrived loudly in the night and complained about it being a double bed (rightly, but waking the other people up). It was clearly a family room they tried to make into a dorm. Lockers are not big enough for a standard trekking backpack. Bathrooms were good: ensuite but split up into toilet and shower with a sink outside. Walls were paper thin and it was loud. The guest kitchen was not fit for purpose, it was disgusting and full of flies. There were only about 8 plates for a hostel with several floors. Staff in the kitchen were passive aggressive. Staff on the desk were lovely and very helpful, thank you. Location was good, a quick train ride from Amsterdam Centraal so convenient. Atmosphere was terrible: mostly post-school friendship groups going to Amsterdam to drink and smoke. Any attempt to make conversation was shut down rudely. This is not the place to go as a solo backpacker. I left early.

Location of the hotel is fantastic, away from all the busy streets of central Amsterdam, but with sloterdijk train station literally next door you can be in the heart of Amsterdam or schiphol airport within minutes. Booked a family room that easily sleeps four people and very clean. Seems to be a busy hotel, with a lot of noise that go on in to the early hours of the morning. Check in was simple, arrived around 11am and checked in within minutes. Unfortunately even tho our room was ready at 11am the guy on reception wouldn’t give us the room keys until 3pm. So not sure if they are really strict on the 3pm check in policy or just having a bad day. Even tho I have a couple of negative points about this hotel, I do still recommend it due to the location.
