Too expensive for this sort of old uncomfortable hotel, in my opinion, of course. Not only the staff at the reception didn't know any English (normal in China, though inconceivable compared to other countries, you're a capital city or what), but they also were generally apathetic and cold-shouldering, aloof. Not even using please and thank you, not even in their language, not even via the translator. Just rude.
As the others mentioned, the hotel and the room indeed was dark and sombre. My girlfriend had trouble putting on makeup, and the overall ambiance not welcoming. The bathroom designers should themselves try using it to tell if they like having water everywhere on the floor after showering. Why not use a usual door instead of a fragile piece of glass? And the worst thing is that the bathroom does not have any lock, this deviancy should be fixed immediately. Also the sockets, they barely hold the plug. I know it's an Asian thing, but still it was to my mood's detriment, trying to arrange the phone charging to be working.
On the bright side, the bed was big, clean and comfy. But I strongly recommend thinking about fixing the above-mentioned problems for the wellbeing of the next visitors to come.
