It was an unpleasant experience. Long story short: the hotel was overbooked and we (including a tiring pregnant lady!) were asked to stay in another one 7 km away, SE-side of Berlin, away from city center, in a relatively bad neighborhood. The clear reason of overbooking is unknown, but this happened to many customers, not just us. It either indicates the hotel is too greedy to deliberately cancel the early orders booked with lower prices (probably us), or that they have a poor management. Either way, it’s frustrating.

No front desk! No front desk! No front desk! I couldn't get through on the phone, so I had to text on WhatsApp. The automated replies were unintelligible and took ages to get a human to speak.
There was an unexplained, extremely loud, and irritating buzzing sound in the room. I tried everything customer service said, but it didn't work. They offered to switch rooms, but they said they had sold out of the same price and asked me to pay the difference for an upgrade. I ended up dragging my luggage to another hotel at 11 PM.
I'm so grateful to Ctrip customer service for their continued assistance. Because of the time difference, it was 3 or 4 in the morning in China, but Ctrip customer service was always online and responsive. I eventually arranged for the hotel to refund two nights, and Ctrip gave me one night's compensation, so my entire stay was fully refunded.

Prime location, public transport and shops within walking distance. Delicious breakfast, beautiful courtyard and with a bit of luck a free upgrade to a more spacious room (apartment with fully equipped kitchen).
