Hotels near Musees des Automates in Charente-Maritime

We recently spent 03/09 to 10/09 staying at Les Muguets hosted by Jacky B in La Rochelle. The property is traditionally furnished, is clean and well maintained and is perfectly located for accessing the centre of La Rochelle. Despite arriving late due to a delayed flight we were collected from the airport by Jacky who also kindly offered to take us back at the end of our stay. Although our property was attached to the owners we were given the run of the garden and were encouraged to help ourselves to the tomatoes growing etc. There are local shops close by, bakery, butchers, cafe & small supermarket and the town centre with restaurants, the old port and the beach is only a 10 minute walk away. We had a wonderful week here and would recommend staying here to anyone, the photos do not do it justice.

Gorgeous boutique hotel right on Vieux port making it in the heart of the buzz around the port but noise wasn’t an issue at all. Everything was accessible and within a few minutes walk. Bus from the airport stopped right outside the hotel, train station is a 5 minute walk away. Room is v small and a bit cluttered but view from the room made up for it. Didn’t have a balcony (a few rooms have) but we loved looking out our window at the buzz around the port and watching the entertainment. It was spotlessly clean and was cleaned daily. Bathroom was bright and had great lighting, a rare in some hotels where you can barely see without turning all all lights. Minibar including water, coke and iced tea included which was a nice touch. Also got a plate of macarons and a little welcome card which again was lovely. Safe also included free of charge. Beds were very comfortable and plenty of sockets to charge phones etc. Staff were wonderful and so friendly. Didn’t have breakfast as there are so many places to chose from in the city. La Rochelle was amazing and I will hopefully come back and would have no hesitation in staying in La Tour de Nesle again.

I stayed 2 nights in this hotel with my 21 year old daughter in the first week in July. It's in a great position, down a beautiful street & a short walk to all the bustling restaurants along the port. The lady at check in was really lovely, friendly & informative (& again when we came back one night wanting a hot drink to take up to bed with us she helped us with this). The rooms were clean & the beds comfortable (I'm a bit fussy when it comes to what I sleep on but I had a great night sleep). We stayed midweek and didn't experience any issues with noise outside. The walls are a little thin and on rare occasions could hear next door but this didn't bother us at all & what this place offered overall more than made up for it. The shower cubicle was small so wouldn't suit everyone. I've been to La Rochelle many times and stayed at various hotels each time depending on who I'm traveling with (as a couple or large group). This place ticked all of the boxes and we weren't disappointed. On another note: I usually take a taxi from the airport but the queue was horrendous and after half an hour we decided to jump on the bus (it was Illico 1b) and it took us only a couple of minutes walk to the hotel from the Dames Blanches/St Nicholas bus stop....for under 2 euros each...so I'd do this again just to save taxi time, regardless of cost. Recommend this hotel....and of course beautiful La Rochelle. Ps. there's a lovely, buzzy restaurant opposite too with yummy food...it was packed so we had to take ourselves off to a nearby bar to have a drink & wait...worth it though as restaurant had great atmosphere. I stayed at the Central Park Hotel in June 2021. I was with my husband and 5yo. The hotel manager was extremely helpful and made sure she was available to chat during breakfast etc. Our room was very good. It was cleverly laid out with an alcove section partitioned off from the main bedroom. It allowed our son to get to sleep whilst we were still up. I wish all hotel rooms had this layout! The location of the hotel worked well for us. Being across from the park, we could easily take our son on walks to the city zoo. It took around 10mins to be in the thick of the action at the Old Port. We opted for breakfast and, as a coeliac, I was pleasantly surprised at the gluten free options available. Items were laid out with separate spoons and tongs, and there were separate baskets for bread and cakes. This is the first time I've seen this in France. Finally, my husband and I both had massages at the Spa and had our treatments with Raphael. He was outstanding.

Excellent location... Very welcoming manager... Very well appointed room and close to the main part of town, Old and New... Our stop here was unfortunately just for 1 night but will definitely return! Another plus point is having secure under ground parking just a few metres away and it wasn't expensive... La Rochelle is a great place but maybe best out of season....can imagine how it could be in July and August....
