Apart Bernard Rooms

We had the WORST experience at Apart Bernard. Stayed for 3 nights, and while the manager Derek was polite, what happened at checkout was absolutely unacceptable. Our checkout was on Dec 31 at 10:00 AM. Because the apartment had only 2 washrooms and there was a queue, we left the room at 10:15 and went to the common kitchen area to fix our bags. That’s when a cleaning lady barged in, shouted at us to leave, and even said “you sh**” to us! She was unbelievably disrespectful, and Derek, you were there on premise and didn’t do anything to stop her. Is this how you treat your customers? Delaying checkout by 15 minutes doesn’t justify such disgusting behavior. We are beyond disappointed, and this interaction completely ruined our year-end day. Derek, even though you were nice, you should NEVER allow staff to abuse your guests like this. We were about to give 5 stars despite some inconvenience with the shared bathrooms. But after this unpleasant experience, we will not recommend this place to anyone. Edinburgh is a stunning city, and we will revisit, but we will never choose this place again. Absolutely unacceptable experience.

More could have been done by the property owners before our arrival to clarify how to get in to the property as it doesn’t have a reception desk - we didn’t receive any correspondence before arrival in relation to this, and only managed to gain access to the property as someone else was leaving

Envisage this: an appartment on the 2nd floor with a stairwell without any light (we had to use the torches of our mobile phones to get upstairs - very scary for 2 girls on their own); the "Homestay" is an apartment with 6 bedrooms and houses 14 guests; there are only 2 bathrooms (WC & shower) for 14 guests! Imagine, you're in urgent need of a toilet and both bathroos are occupied with complete strangers for 15 min each, taking a shower. What would you do? Well, I leave that to your imagination! Our bedroom had NO WINDOWS and NO VENTILATION!!! A total death trap in case of a fire or in case of a gas leak - I am sure that this is not legal. But who cares about consumer rights in this country??? Certainly not the people who rent out those rooms. (In their review section they state that there was CCTV and a staff member on-site during the night - which is a blatant lie!!!) Imagine, you're in your room, trying to get some sleep, and there are countless other guests entering that apartment, banging the doors, being noisy-drunk and keeping everyone else awake until the early morning when the door-babging starts again with all the guests who need to leave early. A TOTAL NIGHTMARE - do not book this accommodation under any circumstances... you will never see your money back as the owners of this accommodation refuse to communicate directly with clients (they are non-English-speakers); and *********** (through whom I booked that accommodation) refuse any responsibility and merely suggest to "write a review that helps the property to improve"

It was okay: the stair well scared the hell out of us as it looks like a dark ******* asylum and someone had **** on the first floor as well. We got to our door and we’re filled with dread and about to turn back around however once inside we were pleasantly surprised. The room was immaculate and homely the beds were MEGA comfy. We were exposed to a guy in y fronts running from shared bathroom to his room. Very very loud noise from street police sirens all night but it was the cheapest private room/ shared facilities. Would we stay again? Probably yeah. Alone? Deffo not :) I mean we were on a horror weekeend so it added to the experience in a positive way

No tv, shared shower rooms, so loud with people coming in and out of their rooms early in the morning to use the bathroom. Could not sleep. Would not recommend.
