Garden Route Game Lodge

📍 N2, Albertinia, Heidelberg
★★★★ 9.3 (78 reviews)

"Had the most incredible experience from start to finish. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, and the exceptional service continued right through to the moment we left. The food was outstanding ,from delicious breakfasts to beautifully prepared three-course dinners, every meal was a highlight. The game drives were, of course, the standout. Our ranger, Dewald, kept us laughing and smiling the entire time. He truly went above and beyond to ensure we saw as much wildlife as possible and created a memorable experience for us. An unforgettable weekend. As Dewald says, “safari is not in your eyes, but in your heart.”"

Skeiding Guest Farm

Skeiding Guest Farm

📍 Skeiding Guest Farm - Double Room, Heidelberg
★★★ 9.4 (18 reviews)

"The view was amazing. Sone our guide, was knowledgeable and welcoming, making sure that everyone was well taken care of ( as well as being an excellent chef!). The owner was passionate and gave us great insights into life on the farm. Our morning tour of the farm with Sone and two staff members was fun! We fed the ostriches, and saw zebra, emus, springbok, sheep, pigs, chickens, cows and so much more, followed by a delicious farm breakfast. Thanks to all!"

Whale Watchers Inn ★★★
"A short drive from Heidelberg, what a wonderful place Witsand is! This little East Coast town with its warm and friendly folk offers an authentic local, countryside experience second to none. Coming from the West Coast, I enjoy visiting smaller towns and villages - places like Paternoster, Lambert's Bay etc. - where, usually, the people are hearty. Witsand and Whale Watchers Inn is no different. From meeting Tannie Annerie and her husband, Oom Tekkie and their pup Peanut, our Easter breakaway was well-rounded with peace, joy and happiness. Tannie Annerie welcomed us at short-notice and accommodated our early check-in. Having worked in hospitality for +10 years at 5-star, ultra-luxury establishments, I am well aware of how tricky this could be to accommodate a guest's early check-in request, yet we were fortunate that Annerie could accommodate us in this regard. The Grunter room we booked was among the last two available spaces we could reserve, and we are grateful to have secured the booking at last minute, as our stay in Witsand was extended with an additional day. This space is perfect for a young couple needing a private space to relax, a family of 4, or friends getting together after years. The extra touches are much appreciated. We enjoyed the coffees & teas and rusk provided complimentary. Beyond this, we absolutely loved walking to and from Whale Watchers Inn to the local restaurant & bar, Anchorage, run by Oom Tekkie, which beautifully captures the heart & soul of Witsand. Oom Tekkie and his staff Tyrone, Shania, Kerishni and others (I can't remember all the other names) were all very welcoming, friendly and professional. From time-to-time Tannie Annerie would also pass by to serve guests and patrons extending the warmth we experienced at Whale Watchers Inn into the restaurant. Although we are content with Whale Watchers Inn, we have noticed some minor aspects of outdatedness, which Tannie Annerie excitedly (and with a big smile) informed of improvements they will be making in the future. I look forward to visiting again to experience her smile and joy after changes. These will definitely enhance the ambience, but other than these physical aspects, nothing comes close to the intangible experience we had with Tannie Annerie at her establishment. Well Done for sustaining this culture of local warmth, friendliness and sincere "platteland" care. This might be insignificant to others, buts for once we could speak Afrikaans again so comfortably and truly feel at home. Almal is mense-mense. We entirely loved our time at Whale Watchers Inn and truly look forward to visiting again. Until then, I wish every success to Tannie Annerie & Oom Tekkie and their amazing staff compliment, even at Anchorage. To quote a little sign at Anchorage that I think captures the village, its people and the culture in the best words possibly: "Witsand (and I would say Whale Watchers Inn & Anchorage) is a small drinking town with a SERIOUS fishing problem." Skeiding Guest Farm ★★★
"As this guest house has been recommended by some friends our expectations were quite high. Furthermore we had just spent some days in a great ostrich farm which did not have any ostriches any more but still very beautiful buildings. The bungalows in Skeiding are spacious but could do with some renovation.Still, they are okay. For dinner we got ostrich and steak, prepared on an indoor grill. That was fine. Se did not really get to meet the owners - the man just came to the dining room to open a bottle of champagne in the spectacular way with a sword for a friend, the wife was setting in front of the reception without saying a word. So, after all, nothing wrong with the stay, but we won't go there again."

Charlotte House ★★★★
"Charlotte House is a seashore guesthouse situated on the border to Skulpiesbaai Nature Reserve in Stillbaai, and offers 4 self-catering apartments. The street is a cul-de-sac and parking is easy. Our partment has a spatious fully equipped kitchen with table & 4 chairs, large bench, and garden balcony with beach chairs & private barbeque. We had a separate bedroom with a king-size bed, wardrobe, and underpowered electric heating and a large en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet, and washbasin. Windows have indoor blinds and can open. Free Wi-Fi and complimentary tea and coffee. Charlotte House is charmingly outdated & clean, and we had an enjoyable stay. Recommended."

Myrtles Retreat ★★★
"Myrtle's retreat is spotless and the kitchen is very well stocked, but the smoking area is outside the rooms which often smell really badly of smoke. Also I've never slept on mattresses or pillows that hard, we all swopped beds every night but slept very badly. The staff is awesome, friendly and helpful."
