54 on Bath

Johannesburg|2.56km from St Paul's Church Parkhurst
I didn't get to stay at 54 on Bath. I made a reservation online. When I went to apply the loyalty benefit, it would not allow me to do so. I contacted the hotel as per their online instruction to do so. The receptionist, hearing my request, told me she was busy with a client and would phone me back. Understandable. Thirty minutes later no call. I called her back and she said I had to resolve the matter online. I then ask her where on line and she doesn't know, she has to call someone to help. I ask her what the cancellation policy is and she says ”6pm!” I ask her to escalate to a manager. The manager comes online and I tell her about the loyalty issue. She too insists i fix it online, and despite incessantly affirming that my reservation is not reflecting online, she tells me that's where it needs to be fixed. She also tells me she needs to find out what's wrong and will call back. Of course that doesn't happen. I call back and decide to cancel my booking. I ask what the cancellation policy is. I get told as long as it is before 6pm before my day of arrival. When I confirm 6pm she changes it to 12pm ”depending on reservations”. I tell her i wish to cancel my booking now and can she do that. Again, she insists that I go online and cancel the booking. I tell her the reservation is not reflecting online on my account. I send her a screenshot. The screenshot clearly shows ”No reservation for these dates”. She tells me I have the wrong end date 2025. I change the date and still no reservation reflected. Again, she tells me I have to cancel online. Until I INSIST that she does it via telephone, she doesn't. Then all I get is, ”it's cancelled”, knowing she has not made the cancellation but just wants to get me off the phone. So I verify my 100% refund and when I'm likely to get my refund. She tells me it will be returned EFT. I tell her it's a foreign card!! She tells me it will go back on the card. Only when I tell her that I've recorded the conversation, does she say ”sorry”. When I tell her i'm coming on to trip advisor she says- ”i hope you're not going to do that.” 54 on Bath a 5 star boutique hotel!!!!!! I have booked all my clients in your hotel. This is just shocking service. I would have done anything to save the business when the client asked for a cancellation. They didn't even ask me why I was cancelling. So 54 on Bath - here's why. When I am paying the rates I do for a 5 star experience, I don't expect incompetent staff, a website that is dysfunctional and not even an apology. And when we ask for a cancellation, cancel with verification. This is why Trip Advisor is so powerful!
Hyatt Regency Johannesburg

Hyatt Regency Johannesburg

Johannesburg|2.74km from St Paul's Church Parkhurst
I don't even know where to begin with this place. I read the reviews so I was truly excited about staying here, but was sorely disappointed. Let me start with the good stuff. The location is pretty nice. I loved that it was kind of in it's own little village, with several restaurants and stores connected to it. It's also in walking distance of several other restaurants and a short uber trip from most tourist attractions. The food at all the restaurants were tried were really good and the plating was quite beautiful. Everything else was..... Let's start our check-in. Our trip was booked through Delta vacations, so everything was paid for prior to coming. We get to the Check-in and they say our room wasn't paid. We show them the paperwork and they basically said, sorry no dice. okay, that's not their issue we were going to call our travel agent. We had to pay for the 1st night though, while we sorted it out. Fast forward, they did get the payment and there was a mix up on their end, which would have been fine, had they not told our travel agent they didn't tell us we had to pay for the rooms only for incidental. Since when is incidentals $400US? The layout of the room appeared nice a first (view of the surrounding area is beautiful) until you realize that the light and the outlets are connected. This wouldn't have been a problem if there were different switches for each. However there was literally one switch for both. So either you had the light on and charged your devices or let them die so you can sleep in darkness. Yes, we ( my sister and I ) complained about this and received the response of, they are sorry and would see if they could find us another room. They didn't. The bathroom looks gorgeous, until you realize that the shower head is hanging from the ceiling, so the only way to wash off is to stand directly under it, getting your hair wet. While this may work for some guests, it won't work for many. Soaping up and then trying to wash off was an ordeal. No, there weren't any other removable devices that would allow you to wash off. I also mysteriously lost $160 while at this hotel. I cannot confirm that it was the staff, as I didn't see them take it; all I know is that I counted my money every single day of that trip. I counted it right before we left to go to the apartheid museum. When we left the hotel the next day, we were running a little late for our flight and I didn't count it until we got on the plane, which is when I noticed it. I noticed it immediately because the money was out of order ( yes there is a certain order I out my money in). When I notified the front desk about it once we landed, they said I probably dropped it. Which is curious that I didn't drop all of it, and the rest of it was in the exact same place, (a wallet and 2 purses into my suitcase) when I found it. Overall, I did not enjoy my experience at the hotel and I would not recommend it at all.

Cag the Vantage Rosebank

The service was great. Front desk staff are super friendly and were very helpful throughout. Based in the perfect location with almost everything just a walk away - very convenient. The actual apartment was great too. Very comfortable and worth the stay.
Southern Sun Rosebank

The hotel has shuttle service. There is two kinds of ones. It is to go to a nearby place. It is necessary to enter the system. The system will print out a confirmation form to confirm the time and place the sign. The PPS driver is good. If you can't find it. It takes a little trouble to get to the driver by phone. 5 minutes walk from rosebank mall
Gardenia Boutique Hotel

Lovely , relaxing hotel for people on business trips or as base home when visiting Johannesburg. The place is safe with a lovely pool area and an amazing continental breakfast. The rooms are spacious and well kept. The staff are kind and always ready to help make your stay more comfortable. The only thing that disturbed us was the amount of water wasted in filling the pool daily. Apart from that everything thing else was wonderful. Would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again.
Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton
4.1/547 Reviews
Had to book a last business trip to Johannesburg but due to the BRICS Summit, the company preferred hotels were full and the Southern Sun in Hyde Park was the only one in the required area with availability. I now know why and understand why they are not on our preferred list! The stay was for 8 nights (which included weekend) and after explaining my story to the check-in agent, she assured me that I would get a lovely room and would want to stay with them in future. The room was on the south side, it was dark and cold (even though was really hot at the time) and faced a brick walls. The room location aside, the hotel is tired and in need of a serious make-over and modernising. Although it was kept fairly clean, its tiredeness makes it look grubby. And the drain smell was unbearable at times. Even the air freshener outside the the washrooms on the M-level didn't do the trick! You'll need your own in the room though. On a positive note, I experienced Johannesburg to avoid having to go the dreaded hotel room! The hotel is centrally located with ease of access to the shopping mall. The view of the sunsets from the bar are also spectacular but no need to subject ourselves to staying at the hotel to make use of the nice facilities.
The Capital on Bath
4.2/534 Reviews
This was the second time I stayed at the Capital on Bath and the first time, a week ago, I left my hair curlers behind. No ordinary hair appliance but a Dyson AirWrap and I only noticed when I packed on Sunday evening. Never in a million years did I think I would get it back, but I was wrong. Housekeeping had carefully packed it and kept it and it was returned to me this morning. Hats off - we sometimes think that honesty is lacking in South Africa, but not by this team. I've found the staff very pleasant, the rooms clean, the breakfast good. Nothing to complain about - but this piece of service is outstanding, anywhere in the world. Thank you Team Capital on Bath.
