Hotels in Mahaweli River Front, Kandy

Excellent hotel with a great location, view and very friendly staff. Very tasty varied breakfasts and dinners a la carte. The room is like a villa, cozy. Of the minuses - bed bugs bit((( but this did not spoil the holiday.

This villa is great. The two bedrooms on the second floor have separate bathrooms. There are also two large halls. There are two terraces upstairs. When it is not raining, it is definitely the best scene for parties and sunbathing. There are two bedrooms downstairs, and a sundeck for breakfast. The landlord and his wife are super enthusiastic. The breakfast they make can feed the whole day, as well as various fruits and milk tea. There is a great Chinese restaurant nearby, and the landlord will drop/pickup.

A wonderful hotel, which is difficult to notice from the street and with an inconspicuous sign. As expected, it was found and booked by chance and, alas, only for one night. Friendly staff, who met us with care and sent instructions before the meeting on what to do in case of arrival at an inopportune time. The rented tuk-tuk was driven to the back yard and before leaving, the staff themselves parked it next to the exit (considering the crazy traffic, a deep bow for this 😅). They guided us where to exchange dollars for rupees at a good rate. The room is gorgeous, two double beds for two were not that unusual, I'm just still wondering why they didn't limit themselves to one bed) The pool on the roof with a view of the city deserves special attention, unfortunately I can't rate the cuisine, we arrived late and had dinner in the city, and left early, limiting ourselves to coffee, but the overall impression is extremely positive

The Good The standout feature of The Coffee Bungalow is undoubtedly its staff, particularly Adrian, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Everyone we encountered was attentive and genuinely warm, making us feel well cared for. The food was another highlight—delicious and thoughtfully prepared. A particularly nice touch was when they packed us a complimentary to-go lunch for our train journey out of Kandy, which was a pleasant and unexpected gesture. The Bad The lack of air conditioning was a notable downside, especially given Kandy’s humidity. While the property has a charming colonial feel, the absence of a solid door between the bedroom and bathroom was an odd design choice. Although the toilet and shower do have louvered doors, privacy is somewhat compromised. Another issue was the challenging entry system—we found ourselves locked out one night, which was frustrating and inconvenient. The Ugly Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the ant problem. While some level of bugs is to be expected in a tropical setting, the sheer number of ants, particularly in the bathroom but also in the bedroom, was hard to ignore. It definitely impacted our overall comfort. Overall, The Coffee Bungalow has a lot of charm and some truly wonderful hospitality, but there are a few quirks and inconveniences that might not suit every traveler. If you’re prepared for a bit of rustic charm and can handle the lack of AC and privacy, the warm service and great food may make up for the downsides.

The location is close to the central tsurubutsu Ji Temple tsuru super tsuru bank and bus terminal, and it is easy to sightsee. Be careful because the shower room was dirty and you have to wait quite a while until hot water comes out.

The hotel with a sense of history, especially the elevator, is a bit interesting. It is very close to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Kangxi Lake. It takes about 5 minutes to walk. It is not convenient to park at the entrance. We have a breakfast and dinner, and things are quite rich. It is quite satisfactory to eat along the way in Sri Lanka. The hotel staff is also very nice, and the quiet room is so the view outside the window is poor.
