3 big and 2 small. Stayed for 2 nights. The bathroom is super big, with an outdoor shower and an inner bathtub. The shampoo and shower gel are very useful. I was surprised to find a new Dyson hair dryer (but I don’t think it is. Very useful, haha)

You can put your luggage in advance 3 hours before Check in, and the whole stay is a very good experience! You can soak in the hot spring immediately after entering the room, which is very comfortable! recommend!

Very high quality hotel, two floors, live with friends. There are two baths downstairs, one outdoor and one indoor. There are also free drinks in the refrigerator, highly recommended

Check in process was simple and smooth. Hosts received us warmly and gave us all necessary information. We are a family of 6, and the sleeping arrangement worked out. The breakfast and dinner sets were enjoyable to experience. It was very traditional and if I can do it again, I would just choose a breakfast to experience it since it can become redundant in style and choice options. Location was close enough to kyoto station (15 mins walk?) There was a temple nearby that was fantastic. Quiet, not crowded, temple vibes without the huge crowds. There is a laundromat 24/7 around 10 mins walk. Lots of cafes and small restaurants nearby with convenience stores short walk. Best food was a tsukeman ramen joint nearby. Long lines. The only issue of slight discomfort would probably be a seasonal reason. The AC on the upper floor did not cool down the living room area enough. Especially daytime in the middle of July. The close 5-10 mins walks also became an intense battle with heat. Overall it was a great stay. Clean and comfortable. With hosts that were attentive and prompt in their response. The private baths were a highlight and everything had a traditional ambiance mixed with modern comfort like a dyson air wrap. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful and cozy stay in the SHU room! Location is private in a local neighborhood and only a short walk to the train station. The baths were amazing for relaxing after a long day of walking around Kyoto. Each bath has it's own, separate temperature control so you can adjust it perfectly.

We stayed here recently during a trip to Japan. While it was overall a nice experience to get to go to a traditional Machiya but we did not find it to be worth what we paid. Mainly due to lack of maintenance and upkeep details. The air conditioner in the bedroom did not cool down properly. The other AC when turned on had a strong mildew smell. The indoor tub was poorly finished. The outdoor tub and area was very nice, that would be the highlight of our stay.

Book it. Now. Yes it’s a bit pricier than other town homes in the local area, but when we walked inside, we were actually scared we may have accidentally booked something twice the cost. But no, it’s as gorgeous as the pictures appear. This place is nestled in a quiet and unassuming street. But when you’re ready to shop and eat and hit the town, Gojo station is a two minute walk away (and from Gojo, Kyoto Station is only one stop south and shopping is only a couple stops north). But you might feel conflicted about leaving your place. When you check in, a staff member came over and greeted us. She gave us a quick tour of the place (including the two mini fridges with free beverages) and some instructions on how to use the baths. Then we went upstairs to the living room area and had a free matcha tea making lesson. It was a delicious and memorable experience! Lastly, their communication and help are unmatched. I accidentally left an item after we had already left town. I emailed them and they promptly retrieved and arranged a method to ship it back to my address in the US. It saved the trip! We will absolutely be back. In hindsight I wish we could have booked two nights, but even if you can only do one, I absolutely still recommend it.
