We opted for IBIS budget because we needed accommodation for the whole family, 3 adults and 2 (adolescent) kids. They gave us two double rooms, for a reasonable price (around 64 eus/room). At first glance, the rooms look like those of a hospital, which is not the best. However, they turn out to be comfy, fine for one-night stop-and-go staying. The hotel is very basic but very clean, reasonably comfortable, and cheap. Located outside the city, it is very close to a McDonald's (just in front of the hotel), a supermarket, and a boulangerie (3' walking). Breakfast should be around 7 eu each, but we did not try it (we opted for a couple of croissants from the afore-mentioned boulangerie. The entrance is side by side with that of the bigger brother IBIS, of higher level and more costly. Doors tend to slam when released, which may be bothering if you wish to sleep longer in the morning. Also, ground-floor room' window looks directly into the parking lot, so that you can't open the curtains if you want to maintain privacy. Upper-floors rooms should be better on this respect.

The reception was very good, the location of the hotel is quiet and easy to find. However, the rooms need to be reviewed. Access to the bedrooms: there is a door leading to a sort of airlock where 2 other doors are located for access to 2 bedrooms. Unfortunately there is no light in his airlock. So if you are alone, you have to hold the first door (because it does not hold on its own) to have daylight and be able to put the card to open the bedroom door. Then, for the bedroom, there is no ”There was only a bedside table and no electrical outlet next to it; either you had to plug it in at desk level or at the sink. The lamps crackle when you turn them on. The sink is not with the shower, not very practical and the toilet flap does not hold so you had it on your back. In addition, there is no toilet paper holder, so between holding the flap and taking the paper, it requires a certain dexterity. And finally, the mattress hollow in the middle; it's okay that I slept with a child. Breakfast a bit limited and in addition they have a bakery 5 minutes away and we had frozen bread!

An unusual building in that all the rooms have doors that lead directly outside, therefore there are no corridors as such. There was ample free parking, but at check-in time in the afternoon the reception desk was closed and I had to use an automated machine to obtain my code for the room. There was an issue getting the door to open but there was an English speaking member of staff I could speak to by phone for help. The room was very compact compared to the B&B Hotel in Ouistreham. The shower was cramped and old fashioned with curtain rather than glass shield. The linen was clean. The room was spartan overall, as you would expect of this hotel chain. I had a good night's sleep, so no complaints about that. It's situated on the outskirts of the city with easy road access to the ferry port and main routes east and south. Reasonable value for money in France.

A one night stay in this property , a pretty typical Ibis property…. Location is great for one night , outside the town , there is a Mc Donald’s nearby as well as a supermarket. Room is similar to most Ibis properties, I still find the set up and colour scheme a bit prison like … but it was quiet , had good temperature control and a nice enough bed and adequate bathroom facilities, it has the added benefit of a curtain to separate the sink etc from the main room if there are two sharing . . There were no tea and coffee facilities in the room .. the WiFi worked well. Staff were helpful and the breakfast in the morning was good . A good choice for a short stay in Cherbourg.

The staff here speak good English and are very warm and friendly with a good sense of humour. The hotel is quite old fashioned. Whilst clean, the room was cramped and the bathroom was akin to a walk-in wardrobe In dimensions. The shelves in the bedroom were loose and wobbly. The WiFi only worked on the ground floor of the building. But for the price, one couldn’t grumble too much. It was an adequate stay. Be aware that the traffic noise from the street outside is very intrusive and doesn’t calm down until late. Apart from that, you leave feeling you have had a genuine French experience which you don’t get in a chain hotel.
