Explorers Retreat Matlock Bath
"Simple house on the hillside"
Florence Nightingale Suites at Lea Hurst
"The house has many artifacts related to Florence Nightingale, who founded the nursing service, as well as artifacts related to the Crimean War. It will be interesting for those who like to directly touch history. We were with the family to celebrate our daughter's birthday. There are Michelin-starred restaurants around. The place is worth a detour from the M1 and a feel of real England"
High Tor Hotel
Duke of Wellington
"Their bar and restaurant are very atmospheric. The environment is also good"
The Family Tree
Oakhill
"We stayed for one night in December and really like this hotel. Our room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was very good (I recommend booking in advance, as it was busy on a Saturday night), and breakfast in the morning, also very good. We will be happy to return some time!"
The Beeley Inn - Chatsworth
"Came here as a long-awaited treat and was highly disappointed. Scones were not scones! They were flaky pastry and burnt and the cakes were revoltingly and sickly sweet. Sad there were no classics in the cake selection. Hope this is fed back to the Chef. We also had to wait ages for the tea to come out even though they knew what time we'd booked for way in advance. Surely they should prepare before you get there so you're not waiting ages. Not good enough for a venue with a chatsworth association. "
Grouse & Claret, Matlock by Marston's Inns
"I reserved a room at this place in this small town solely because I wanted to leave my luggage at the hotel in the morning so I can visit the Chatsworth House freely but the morning staff refused to take my luggage so I had to drag the heavy luggage changing buses to Chatsworth. In the afternoon when I asked about this matter, the staff in the afternoon said leaving my luggage was possible and wondered why the morning staff refused to accept it. I think what the morning staff did was clearly discrimination and hatred towards Asian travelers like me. Also this place has a bar and a restaurant which were pretty noisy until quite late. So if you want a quiet place to relax, think twice. The room was very clean and organized but the hair dryer and the shampoo dispenser were broken. The evening staff tried to help but they seemed very busy taking care of the inn, the bar, and the restaurant at the same time. It was the most unpleasant experience of my life."
Premier Inn Matlock
"Always good and Premier Inns do what it says on the tin! Clean, quiet, comfortable, facilities, pleasant staff and good value"

The Red Lion
"My wife and I really enjoyed our two night stay at the Red Lion. The pub itself is very nice inside, and serves good beer. There is a nice beer garden at the rear, along with a car park. There is a small seated area at the front. Our room was a pretty decent size, with a roomy ensuite. It was clean and well equipped, (hair dryer included). The food was of a great quality, with good sized portions. Most importantly, the staff were very friendly and took a genuine interest in the customers stay. I would definitely stay there again if in the area. "
