MMaoxiaoxiongmiaomiaoThis room was because the hotel I booked before I didn't confirm the order the day before I left, and it became the perfect start for me to break through the middle of the Kumano Ancient Road. After leaving the station, I met Mr. Ota (60 years old), who came to pick me up. After a simple exchange, he gave me a brochure that I had to go to Kumano Ancient Road Museum to buy, and it had already stamped the furthest chapter on the periphery of the ancient road. Today, the task of the newer village is to NPC to take me to cover the other two chapters. And let me try a 2-hour hike to warm up for tomorrow's departure. Mr. Ota enthusiastically explained that he did not charge me any extra fees. There was a Rosen convenience store 3 minutes walk from his house. I bought a lot of supplies and dinner. Who knew that my room was already stuffed with all kinds of free drinks. The room is arranged on the second floor and there is a toilet, but the bath and laundry are going downstairs. The room is oversized, a little bigger than my home in Kyoto. At night, you can see the perfect valley sunset from the balcony! The toilet is a bit old but very clean, and the toilet paper is super thick and fragrant! The bathroom and the wash basin are equipped with a variety of toiletries so that you don't need to open the wash bag! Mr. Taitian's dinner for a busy afternoon was simple instant noodles and meatballs, which made me a little sad. We talked for a long time after dinner. Mr. Taitian is actually half a Chinese pass. If you have the opportunity to stay, please communicate with him. Although it looks a little far from the starting point, there is the blessing of Rosen convenience store and the hospitality of Mr. Ota, it is definitely a lucky place to start from Kumanoko! I highly recommend it!

Amazing
CCEL_LI was about to give bad reviews due to some poor check-in experience, but everything after check in is so good that compensates this journey. First, the check-in process that brings me with bad experience: it is self-served and there is no any staff. By rights you should receive an instruction email with check-in PIN in advance, which I heard from other guests. However, I didn’t receive anything but Trip’s confirmation letter and I was unable to check in. And my sim card in Japan is just an internet card unable to make phone calls, which means I have no way to contact the hotel directly. My partner and I were desperately locked out of the hotel in the evening, after 7h hiking, with no other available hotel in the mountain. After waiting for over 1 hour, other guests helped us to enter the admin room where there is an ipad to call the hotel (why not make it available to guests without checking in?), and with the help of Trip’s agency, we finally checked in successfully. Then here is the staying experience: so good that makes me almost forgive the poor check-in experience. Each room is a spacious individual house and ours has a garden for BBQ. The food is also self-served, with the cooking stuffs and ingredients in the fridge. It was unexpected that you need to cook yourself (I don’t think it was listed on room info when I booked it), but it’s not bad that Wagyu, chicken, and vegetables are served. The rooms are big and cozy, and you can do the laundry after hiking. Everything is good about the hotel itself, just be aware of the self-checkin process and make sure you get the instructions before that.

AAnonymous UserDinner and breakfast are exquisite, you can also help wash clothes, and the boss is very enthusiastic. Although the bathhouse is public, basically no one can soak at night. The most important thing is that ice water is provided in the morning. It is really a great help to hike!

SShiTonyIt was 3rd day when my wife and I are hiking KUMANO KODO. After 6 and half hour hiking and 20 minutes bus, we arrived at Watarase Onsen Hotel Sasayuri around 5pm. At checking counter, we found that I booked wrong day - one day late….. However service person rearranged room and dinner for us within less than half hour. Their traditional Japanese service and food are amazing and forgettable. I will be for sure coming back when I revisit this area.

GGuest UserThis hotel is perfect for a relaxing one day stay. It’s right beside a sapphire-blue river in the middle of the mountains. The in-room onsen is more than big enough for two people and they also have communal baths. They also offer a free shuttle to the start of a stretch of the Kumano Kodo if you want to hike the next day.

GGuest UserThe room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant.

BBoscoayThe second time I lived, the last time was 8 years ago, the facilities were still clean and not significantly old. There is still the hospitality of traditional Japanese-style hotels. The hot springs are still good, and it is a relatively new hotel near the Dragon God.
