The location is very good. It's not far from anywhere. You can't ask for too much from a youth hostel at this price. It's very safe. You can't ask for the service of a Samsung hotel because you didn't pay Samsung prices

Vintage Hotel/Hostel in a typical Victorian house in San Francisco. It doesn't have an elevator, but you already know that when you book. They are located on a steep street but very close to Union Square, right on the edge where the Union Square neighborhood ends and the tenderloin begins. You can spontaneously find homeless people on the street, but the area is safe during daylight hours. Better to go down to market st through union sq if you go down taylor st you end up in an unsafe area. I stayed in a single room with all the comforts. Highlight the bathroom that was new and the good quality of the wifi. The only drawback I would say is that the walls are very thin and you can hear what is coming from the adjoining rooms (I heard every time the phone of the person in the next room vibrated). I can't comment on the common areas because I didn't use them. I would recommend it without a doubt. P.S. You must leave a deposit of $20 in cash upon arrival, which will be returned to you at checkout.

The location was very good. The washing machine was also easy to use. It didn't smell good. For 6-person rooms, it depends on the people in the room.

A delightful place, updated bathrooms / showers, quiet, easily accessible to union square, insane to pay 500+ for a room in this are when you can book this hostel for $100 bucks. A good option for anyone on a budget.

the outlet for my bed didn't work, i didn't get any towels, the mattress had yellow stain which i did not want to know what it was. prob the worst place ive ever stayed, its so bad that im not even mad.

Wasn’t terrible but seemed like a rougher part of town. Husband and I just spent one night there. We got a decent room but found out when we checked in that it was in the basement which we weren’t thrilled about but settled for. On our way down to the basement there was a side door to the outside that was cracked open for some reason; which made us feel even more unsafe. There were several people hanging out in the lounge areas down there and were making some noise past 10pm. We didn’t complain because we figured we’ll just go to our room, mind our business and sleep. We could definitely hear all the noise through the walls and even hear when people used their sink, shower and bathroom. We’re heavy sleepers once we fall asleep so it wasn’t terrible but definitely annoying. Room was clean and the staff wasn’t rude or anything like that. Decent place I guess if you’re not picky. We were just there overnight to sleep so we didn’t mind too much.

Best place for travellers.. Neat and tidy..

It was ok budget stay in the heart of SF downtown close to Union square

Was ok but had a horrible chemical cleaning kind of smell. No elevator so need to haul luggage up multiple floors if staying on level 3 etc...

This hostel is newly-refurbished and is right in the heart of downtown San Francisco -- yet even still it is totally affordable. Saved the day for me financially as well as touristically.
