"I was about to give bad reviews due to some poor check-in experience, but everything after check in is so good that compensates this journey. First, the check-in process that brings me with bad experience: it is self-served and there is no any staff. By rights you should receive an instruction email with check-in PIN in advance, which I heard from other guests. However, I didn’t receive anything but Trip’s confirmation letter and I was unable to check in. And my sim card in Japan is just an internet card unable to make phone calls, which means I have no way to contact the hotel directly. My partner and I were desperately locked out of the hotel in the evening, after 7h hiking, with no other available hotel in the mountain. After waiting for over 1 hour, other guests helped us to enter the admin room where there is an ipad to call the hotel (why not make it available to guests without checking in?), and with the help of Trip’s agency, we finally checked in successfully. Then here is the staying experience: so good that makes me almost forgive the poor check-in experience. Each room is a spacious individual house and ours has a garden for BBQ. The food is also self-served, with the cooking stuffs and ingredients in the fridge. It was unexpected that you need to cook yourself (I don’t think it was listed on room info when I booked it), but it’s not bad that Wagyu, chicken, and vegetables are served. The rooms are big and cozy, and you can do the laundry after hiking. Everything is good about the hotel itself, just be aware of the self-checkin process and make sure you get the instructions before that."

"Soaking in the hot springs here is absolutely top-notch! The outdoor pools are right by the river, and the water is wonderfully hot. With the cool air outside, it really creates that perfect outdoor hot spring atmosphere. Watching egrets forage in the river and seeing steam rise from the water, the ambiance is just incredible! The rooms are a bit dated but still clean, and the breakfast and dinner buffets are quite decent. There are no convenience stores nearby, so for lunch if you're heading into the mountains the next day, you can order from the hotel or the restaurant next door. Though, you could also just make a few sandwiches yourself in the morning to take with you.😅"

"The hotel is right by the ancient road, you can see it from the mountain, it is very convenient. The self-service check-in is also silky, and you must read the operation instructions carefully. When entering the room, breakfast and dinner are already in the room. The dinner is packed in the lunch box. There are quite a lot of food varieties, that is, it is a bit cold. Breakfast is 4 kinds of bread + coffee. Drinks in the small refrigerator can be drunk for free. It is very convenient to have a washing machine and dryer, and wash the wet clothes on the mountain."

"The decoration style of the hotel has a sense of Showa era, combined with the ocean, very distinctive. The boss is very enthusiastic and not very Japanese. When I was eating, I talked about it. The boss also said that he had worked in Shanghai 20 years ago and was so intimacy. The hotel is on the side of the road in Kumano Ancient Road, where you can explore the ancient road. And it really is fog の, it is raining in the morning and fog is really like in a fairyland."

"This room was because the hotel I booked before I didn't confirm the order the day before I left, and it became the perfect start for me to break through the middle of the Kumano Ancient Road. After leaving the station, I met Mr. Ota (60 years old), who came to pick me up. After a simple exchange, he gave me a brochure that I had to go to Kumano Ancient Road Museum to buy, and it had already stamped the furthest chapter on the periphery of the ancient road. Today, the task of the newer village is to NPC to take me to cover the other two chapters. And let me try a 2-hour hike to warm up for tomorrow's departure. Mr. Ota enthusiastically explained that he did not charge me any extra fees. There was a Rosen convenience store 3 minutes walk from his house. I bought a lot of supplies and dinner. Who knew that my room was already stuffed with all kinds of free drinks. The room is arranged on the second floor and there is a toilet, but the bath and laundry are going downstairs. The room is oversized, a little bigger than my home in Kyoto. At night, you can see the perfect valley sunset from the balcony! The toilet is a bit old but very clean, and the toilet paper is super thick and fragrant! The bathroom and the wash basin are equipped with a variety of toiletries so that you don't need to open the wash bag! Mr. Taitian's dinner for a busy afternoon was simple instant noodles and meatballs, which made me a little sad. We talked for a long time after dinner. Mr. Taitian is actually half a Chinese pass. If you have the opportunity to stay, please communicate with him. Although it looks a little far from the starting point, there is the blessing of Rosen convenience store and the hospitality of Mr. Ota, it is definitely a lucky place to start from Kumanoko! I highly recommend it!"
