The spa suite provides privacy with hot tub and personalized service. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with excellent sleep quality. However, guests found the prices high and were dissatisfied with wine and food costs.

The hotel room is very small, unlike domestic hotels, and the price/performance ratio is very poor. The two white female front desk staff are racist. The room seems to be monitored. As long as a third person appears in the room during the day, we will soon be called to ask us to ask the third person to exit. Room!

It's just a better B&B, but to be honest I can't appreciate it. There is one room in one building, and the restaurant is downstairs.

It's a Relais & Châteaux hotel, but this was the only room available when I made the reservation. I didn't expect it to be so small. If you can afford it, book a larger one. It's comfortable to stay in and there's a Michelin restaurant downstairs.

I honestly don't know where to start. We stayed in one of the lodge suites for our mini moon and it was honestly perfect. Every touch was thought of and the suite itself was impeccable. The service in the restaurants was like none I have experienced before and were extremely attentive and friendly. We ate in Gilpin Spice and Source and the food was out of this world. A massive shout out to Harry and Chanel who looked after us in the Source restaurant, they were both lovely and Chanels knowledge on wines was incredible. Hoping to be back for our first anniversary!! Definitely recommened the scallop lasagne - incredible!!

We stayed here for three nights over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We were repeat visitors having previously visited many moons ago in 2007. Bearing this in mind we found a bottle of fizz and some body lotion in our room (Grasmere) welcoming us back. The room was lovely if a little dark with a lovely bathroom and hot tub outside. Also excellent homemade shortbread, replenished daily. Gilpin has changed since our last visit, when it was called Gilpin Lodge. On arrival we had a wander around the grounds to see the animals (pigs and llamas) and to see the grounds and new rooms. We found the breakfast to be a little underwhelming, I was served completely cold porridge one morning which had to be returned. We ate in both restaurants .. Source the meal was delicious and I also had an excellent Passionfruit Martini, and we ate at Spice the following evening, watching the chefs in action, which was fab with a great atmosphere. Gilpin is lovely and we really enjoyed our stay, even though it is a bit pricey.

We had a large room overlooking the Lake staying at the Lake house part of the hotel. It was beautiful and spacious and as it only has 6 rooms very quiet and special. However as it is about a mile from the actual hotel and up a narrow lane with passing places (and pot holes) you do feel a little trapped in the evening. They provide a shuttle for free to their other main hotel building but then you can only eat at 2 places, the Michelin starred Source- my partner is extremely fussy about food, so we ate at the more relaxed Asian style fusion restaurant instead, but this is very over priced for very small portions- 18 pounds for one small grilled aubergine in pieces, with a little spoon of sauce , and 5 pounds for a small bowl of rice. Or 20 pounds for four small lamb pieces with the same spoon of sauce. Starters good but desserts nothing special. Afternoon tea was lovely and beautiful cakes (but it was 30 pounds each), however a lovely treat. They don’t seem to offer a room service or any other lighter options to eat, like fries and sandwiches or burger etc, our neighbours ordered a take away ! The other two issues we had was Water - on arrival there was a note to say you cannot drink the water as it is from the lake. They gave us bottled water but we drank it quickly because the room was so hot (more later) so by morning ran short, and the bath was very brown with black bits when you tried to fill it so I was put off having one The room was incredibly hot, I wondered why staff kept leaving the front door open, it was the underfloor heating that seemed uncontrollable, we turned it right down but it was still 23 degrees at midnight so we opened windows but the thick curtains meant we need to open all the curtains and windows to get a comfortable temperature which meant flies everywhere… On a plus breakfast was delicious though you can’t see what you are having until ordering , I recommend pastries (lovely) instead of toast (despite described as artisan it was just sliced bread) , and the cooked English breakfast was top notch. You can walk around the lake a little but the path petered out, blocked by Bracken and fallen trees , so I couldn’t actually get around which was a shame but the view was lovely the swimming pool was nice and there are hot tubs in the grounds Overall lovely place but could be improved with more eating options at night (room service?) more water offered in your room - perhaps told in advance about the water issue- and fix the heating please . We have underfloor heating at home you should be able to turn it down !

Excellent service, relaxing and with beautiful views. Nothing not to like. All the facilities of a large 5 star hotel but with the added benefit of personal service with more homely surroundings. The food at both Source and Spice were amazing. The only very minor criticisms are that the swimming pool could do with a clean on the water line and the road to the lake house could be sign posted better.

Hard to put into words. I booked this stay as a gift for me and my mum after a turbulent 2024. I wanted to come away and feel relaxed and switched off - and that we did and more. Staying in 5* often is greeted with sterilised staff with slightly “pompous “ attitude but it was far from that. This hotel embodies the Lakes mixed with the sheer beauty of friendly, attentive and professional staff. The hotel was absolutely stunning. We were gifted an upgrade with a hot tub which was sensational. All in all I cannot find one single element to give negative feedback on and the decor etc is definitely NOT tired.
