"We booked a package with breakfast and dinner at the hotel, which was very cost-effective, especially for the two drinkers in my family. The hotel is up a slope, and there is a 711 at the bottom of the slope. Dinner ends at 7:30, and you can buy beer and snacks afterwards. There is a bus stop near the 711. You can check the arrival time of the bus, check out and get on the bus directly to the lake to ride the pirate ship."

AAnonymous UserThis is my first time to experience this kind of pure Japanese-style hotel. Although I only stayed there for one night in a hurry, the experience was very rich and colorful. The service staff was warm and considerate. Although we relied almost entirely on translation machines and body language, it did not affect our communication. The aunt who was responsible for taking care of us would patiently help us change our clothes, remind us to appreciate the cherry blossoms, and ask us where to go. It felt like my own relatives were taking care of the children who came to travel. This is probably the meaning of a family hotel. Dinner and breakfast were very delicious and sufficient! The girls really couldn't finish it! When I learned that someone of us had a birthday, I got a handwritten blessing card, which was very touching! Our friends agreed to stay more time to come here next time!

GGuest UserIt is an older hot spring hotel. After reading the comments from netizens, I was a little worried that there would be an uncomfortable smell, and I was also worried that the facilities including the room would affect the stay experience. After arriving, the entrance and lobby were quite comfortable. The corridor on the third floor had a slightly old smell, but it was actually okay. The room was very comfortable, larger than expected, and the view facing the stream was pleasant, and the bed was very soft. I was particularly satisfied with the price of more than 5,000 for three people. The two meals exceeded my expectations. I didn't expect the beef for dinner to be very good 👍I recommend the outdoor private soup, you must make an appointment, it's very healing. Compared with the hotel that was almost three times the price of the second night in Hakone, the price-performance ratio is really high and worth experiencing 👍

GGuest UserThe service was excellent. Upon arrival, I felt unwell and rested in the lobby. The staff promptly offered me cushions and blankets, which was very thoughtful. The room environment was fantastic. The pleasant sandalwood scent upon entering was incredibly relaxing. The room also offered a variety of complimentary drinks, and there was a 24-hour hot spring bath, making it very convenient to soak whenever I wanted. The kaiseki dinner was delicious and plentiful, leaving me feeling very full. Breakfast was a set meal; while the portions were generous, the taste was rather ordinary, and we ended up not finishing it, which was a bit wasteful.

GGuest UserNot bad. I can see they are trying to make this property more known to international guests from different countries. Two dire problems: the food was extremely salty. With the exception of the Teppan dinner, all of the meals we had here had so much sodium content. Also, their food in general is not of high quality and tastes pretty much the same across all dishes. Please make improvements. And another thing I would highly recommend is that the manager lady learn English so that next time I visit this property and have to communicate in English and ask for some help, she doesn’t get sassy or mad at me for requesting another staff member who can speak English. I really needed some help with golf reservations and understandably it is not her business that we had to go golfing the next day. However, I didn’t realize it was such a rude thing to ask for another employee who could understand what I was saying when she couldn’t understand my requests specifically because of her lack of English proficiency. For this property to become popular with international guests, it would be a wholesome idea for the chief manager to learn to speak better English anyways. I guess she knew that she was being rude by hitting the desk because she came up to me and gave me her business card (without my asking and finally in a nice manner) when I merely asked a younger staff member if the angry lady was the manager. She must have known that she was giving me attitudes. When you are in the hospitality business, please don’t forget that guests are there to enjoy their trip—savoring each moment—not to feel uncomfortable or be bothered by staff’s attitudes.

AAnonymous UserA very beautiful ryokan, old but very well maintained. The decor is so beautiful. From the moment you check in, you will be in good hands of the ryokan, well served with friendliness. Keiseki meals (dinner and breakfast) are served in the room. Food is delicious! And love the private outdoor onsen!! U get to book for 30 minutes per day for the stay. Well worth the price.

AAnhao-SophiaSecond stay, the hotel environment is very good, hot spring is also very good. Meals, breakfast and dinner are rich, delivered to the room, but the barbecue and hot pot smell very strong, I proposed to eat in the restaurant, and applied several times before being approved. My companions were sick, and all the pharmacies nearby were closed due to the economic depression. The first aid kit in the hotel was not updated, and it was barely enough for emergency. The town is quite quiet, the forest art gallery and sightseeing train are still there, but they are obviously very dilapidated.

GGuest UserThe service was excellent. The hot springs were very enjoyable. They have different types of hotsprings (regular, carbonic acid, cold). The food was excellent. We were stuffed. The portion was huge and the variety was wide.  Hygiene was great. The room was spotless and the balcony was very romantic under the moon light. Well worth the money.

GGuest UserOverall an ok stay. A bit hard to find, very limited English spoken by the staff which led to some confusion (even for the representatives who were assigned to us by English speakers). Felt quite formal and not that warm Room was more or less as expected, and the dinner and breakfast meals were quite elaborate. Felt that breakfast was actually the stronger meal of the two, so wasn’t necessarily worth it to pay extra for dinner. I’d likely skip doing dinner in the future. The room attendant who helped us was very kind and attentive, although we had a bit of language barrier given we don’t speak Japanese. The big disappointment was even though the ryokan is advertised as allowing guests to book one of the larger hot springs on the property for private use for 45 minutes, we weren’t able to do this. We arrived within the designated check in time and were told that it was all booked up for the day. There was no way to book in advance and we were only staying for one night, and they didn’t try to accommodate allowing us to book at all for the next day before checkout. This really hampered the experience overall - we weren’t that interested in using the gender segregated facility (was traveling with my partner who is the opposite gender) as we wouldn’t be able to spend time together, and the tub in our room was quite small. They should amend this policy to allow all guests to book a private hot spring time or not advertise it as part of the room! Feels like we got cheated out of the service and we weren’t offered anything else as an alternative. I would have booked another ryokan had I known this were the case - there are many others in Hakone which are much better value and have nicer / newer private facilities for around the same price. I wouldn’t recommend Yama no Chaya given this was a big part of what we thought would make it a good experience

GGuest UserWe got to the hotel in the beautiful location just before 3pm and we got given a little tour of the place and then got shown to our room. The staff are very friendly and do their best to speak English. A lovely lady was in charge of our hospitality throughout our stay and she first showed us that there is a public hot spring and a private hot spring and asked us if we would like to book a time to use the private hot spring, we booked a time as we checked in but then we didn’t use it as we were happy with our private hot spring in the room. We also booked a time for dinner and they arrived at that time Promptly with A LOT of food. We also got a choice for a staple food and we chose some steak which was high quality and delicious, as well as the lobster (on the menu it said grilled prawn but a lobster is what came and it was delicious). We ordered a few beers and a bottle of wine with room service and it always came quickly and was nice and cold. The private hot spring is absolutely boiling but it’s a good experience and there’s ice water provided which helps. Breakfast came at 8.30am and it was also huge! It didn’t come with coffee but I ordered some and that was easy enough. The lady who served our food explained every dish and how to eat it and she was always extremely friendly and attentive. Would recommend!

AAnonymous UserWe booked a hot spring hotel on short notice and were very satisfied with it. We arrived early and could not check in until after 3:30 pm, but fortunately we could leave our luggage at the hotel. The staff helped us make the bed when we were having dinner in the evening. There was a rich variety of dinner, but we didn’t really like the side dishes. It would have been better if the side dishes were replaced with sashimi. We even had a surprise dessert after the meal, which made us very happy. The breakfast the next day was also very filling and delicious. The experience is very good and recommended for staying.
