My biggest mistake of this trip to Yamagata is to book this hotel. It's a good hotel but it's in the middle of nowhere. You will want to stay around the city of Yamagata province which is also called Yamagata city just so you can get to famous tourist spots. However this is 4 hours away from all of these. I had to book another hotel so I can stay 1 day in the city when I wanted to visit these places and the traveling time just completely made me exhausted. It took like 1 day to go to a place and 1 day to go back. It was so terrible, I was crying. This place is closed to Shonai airport not Yamagata airport so I also had to book another flight from Shonai. I wasted so much money for transportation. It was such a terrible experience.
However the hotel is incredibly beautiful with smart design in everything. I loved the onsen very much. If it was just a vacation/restcation for relaxing purpose or isolate yourself from the human word, it's the best choice for you. Since its in the middle of the endless rice field, there is nothing to eat except for paying very high price to eat at the hotel's restaurant. And the food was just okay.
The beauty of this hotel was like a trap. Its like I was blind from its beauty and couldn't see all other disavantages.

I would go back to Tsuruoka just for this hotel!
Especially loved the modern, clean onsen with views of the mountain.
Rooms were thoughtfully designed and the breakfast on the terrace had stunning stunning views.

Car parking is far from entrance. Need to walk 100m.
Very slow check in process. Need to wait for 25mins
Room materials are same as common Japanese home.
I felt chemical smell from some big furnitures.
Voice leaking was terrible, in morning, I and wife noticed at corridor some other guests doing sex. We hear all voices.

i loved it so much! this place is perfect to just enjoy the scenery and weather! the onsen was perfect! take note that there’s nothing much around the area and it’s recommended to drive instead! the interior of the hotel was lovely and i loved the smell of wood everywhere! i throughly enjoyed staying here. the walls are abit hallow can hear other people closing door loudly, talking really loud etc.. the corridors are abit cold, and i found that the G area was really cold! (onsen/gym/sake block) however that could be due to the renovations! i would stay again if i had the chance to!

I stayed at this hotel for two nights.
Generally speaking, it was a very pleasant experience.
The design of this hotel is very unique and beautiful, making it a perfect fit for workation!
You can see ducks playing around in the water field while working in the library.
The sunset glow is just like a picture, which tinted the sky purple! So amazing.
The only drawback for me is that the location is a bit far from Tsuruoka train station and the hotel does not provide a free shuttle bus service.
I strongly recommend this hotel for workation, and I am sure I will be back again soon

The hotel's wood-based decoration has a youthful feel. There are check-in booths everywhere, and the hot springs are very comfortable. However, the outdoor and indoor hot springs are separated. After bathing in one, you have to put your clothes back on and go to the other, which is a bit troublesome! Although the location is a bit remote, there are large supermarkets, drugstores and many restaurants about 10-15 minutes' drive away, making it suitable for self-driving travel. The breakfast ingredients are fresh and delicious. Overall, I like this hotel very much!

The interior of this hotel is beautiful enough, and the comfortable wood decoration and wood fragrance make you feel like you are back at home. Although the photo of the large bath seems a bit different from the actual one, the overall design and price are well worth staying. !

Suiden Terrace seems to float in a sea of green rice.
Walking along the long strokes of the entrance, you follow the lush green rice.
After climbing the atrium staircase, you will reach the lobby on the second floor.
The sunlight pours in through the large windows, and the spacious space has an open feel, reminiscent of an art museum.
We stayed at the hotel with a plan that included dinner and breakfast.
All of the dishes made with ingredients from Shonai were delicious, and for dinner we enjoyed an appetizer of short pasta with conch and tomatoes, pan-fried tilefish, and roasted Shonai duck paired with sake and wine from Yamagata Prefecture.
For breakfast, we ate our fill of local cuisine made with ingredients from Shonai, gazing at the rice fields swaying like waves in the breeze and Mt. Gassan towering beyond.
The large public bath, which is equipped with an open-air bath and sauna, is also surrounded by rice fields, so you can relax and unwind while feeling the pleasant breeze.
You can drink in the lounge, but we had local beers, a session IPA and a pale ale, in our room.

It's beautiful, very beautiful!
The room pictures on the website are misleading. Only rooms with balconies can see outside the window, but not all rooms with balconies can face the rice fields. Some rooms with balconies can only face another building, which should be linked to the price.
It is of course good to have a terrace, but in fact, it is not very important whether you can see outside the window. The hotel has many public terraces where you can sit and see the rice fields. Don't worry too much.
It is best to book dinner immediately after checking in, otherwise there may be no seats.

I finally managed to get my schedule in order before the rice harvest, so I stayed here for the first time.
My friends had recommended it, so I knew it would be a hassle, but it was very good.
I'll be returning in December this time.
It was cold. I couldn't see the mountains on the day I checked in, but at 6:30 the next morning, I was able to see the snow-capped mountains from the open-air bath. The breakfast is always great.

The room was clean and comfortable. As I made the reservation at the last minute, there was no plan with dinner, so I booked a plan with breakfast only without dinner. Breakfast was also delicious.

I went there just to enjoy the sauna, but the facilities were clean and the service was friendly, so I was able to spend a worthwhile time there! I'd like to go again!
