My biggest mistake of this trip to Yamagata is to book this hotel. It's a good hotel but it's in the middle of nowhere. You will want to stay around the city of Yamagata province which is also called Yamagata city just so you can get to famous tourist spots. However this is 4 hours away from all of these. I had to book another hotel so I can stay 1 day in the city when I wanted to visit these places and the traveling time just completely made me exhausted. It took like 1 day to go to a place and 1 day to go back. It was so terrible, I was crying. This place is closed to Shonai airport not Yamagata airport so I also had to book another flight from Shonai. I wasted so much money for transportation. It was such a terrible experience. However the hotel is incredibly beautiful with smart design in everything. I loved the onsen very much. If it was just a vacation/restcation for relaxing purpose or isolate yourself from the human word, it's the best choice for you. Since its in the middle of the endless rice field, there is nothing to eat except for paying very high price to eat at the hotel's restaurant. And the food was just okay. The beauty of this hotel was like a trap. Its like I was blind from its beauty and couldn't see all other disavantages.

Such a WONDERFUL hotel I never stayed before. This is a new, eco, comfortable & beautiful place that I don’t want to leave. It is very suitable for any tourists especially for family, I will highly recommended & must visit again next time.

Room is very big and there is an in room private onsen. Location is a bit far off, need to go to sister ryokan for outdoor onsen.

I would go back to Tsuruoka just for this hotel! Especially loved the modern, clean onsen with views of the mountain. Rooms were thoughtfully designed and the breakfast on the terrace had stunning stunning views.

Car parking is far from entrance. Need to walk 100m. Very slow check in process. Need to wait for 25mins Room materials are same as common Japanese home. I felt chemical smell from some big furnitures. Voice leaking was terrible, in morning, I and wife noticed at corridor some other guests doing sex. We hear all voices.

i loved it so much! this place is perfect to just enjoy the scenery and weather! the onsen was perfect! take note that there’s nothing much around the area and it’s recommended to drive instead! the interior of the hotel was lovely and i loved the smell of wood everywhere! i throughly enjoyed staying here. the walls are abit hallow can hear other people closing door loudly, talking really loud etc.. the corridors are abit cold, and i found that the G area was really cold! (onsen/gym/sake block) however that could be due to the renovations! i would stay again if i had the chance to!

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. Generally speaking, it was a very pleasant experience. The design of this hotel is very unique and beautiful, making it a perfect fit for workation! You can see ducks playing around in the water field while working in the library. The sunset glow is just like a picture, which tinted the sky purple! So amazing. The only drawback for me is that the location is a bit far from Tsuruoka train station and the hotel does not provide a free shuttle bus service. I strongly recommend this hotel for workation, and I am sure I will be back again soon

The hotel is located just a 30-minute bus ride from Shonai Airport. I was able to relax all day without leaving the hotel. I'll come again.

The hotel's wood-based decoration has a youthful feel. There are check-in booths everywhere, and the hot springs are very comfortable. However, the outdoor and indoor hot springs are separated. After bathing in one, you have to put your clothes back on and go to the other, which is a bit troublesome! Although the location is a bit remote, there are large supermarkets, drugstores and many restaurants about 10-15 minutes' drive away, making it suitable for self-driving travel. The breakfast ingredients are fresh and delicious. Overall, I like this hotel very much!

When you get off the bus heading to Tsuruoka from the airport at Science Park, Suiden Terrace is right in front of you. The room is simply designed but has everything you need and is very comfortable. There is also a bar and a library space, which is nice. We didn't have time to relax this time, but if you have the time, I recommend spending some time there. The open-air baths are switched between men and women in the morning and evening, so you can enjoy them both in the morning and at night. There was a wide selection of Yamagata specialties for breakfast, which was great to enjoy in the morning.

There is a famous photo of the house filled with water, but when I went, the rice field soil was visible. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and I had a comfortable stay. I thoroughly enjoyed every corner of Shigeru Ban's architecture!

The interior of this hotel is beautiful enough, and the comfortable wood decoration and wood fragrance make you feel like you are back at home. Although the photo of the large bath seems a bit different from the actual one, the overall design and price are well worth staying. !

The hot springs and saunas are of high quality and feel great. The breakfast buffet is so extensive that you end up eating so much that you don't even need lunch that day.
