This was an overnight, weekend leisure stay for a nearby event. Despite having never stayed here before, the location was very convenient and the website photos were encouraging. Booking was simple using the website and check in was pleasant. On entering the room, the temperature was noticeably hot. Uncomfortably hot. We assessed this was because of direct sunlight coming through the window so we closed the shade somewhat and beeped the temperature down on the thermostat. Due to our schedule, and not thinking it would be an issue, we left immediately and didn't advise the desk. On return later that evening, the room was still incredibly hot (~25-30C) despite the thermostat being set to 19C. We had another timeline to make but we advised the desk on leaving. We were told the room temperature was ”centrally controlled” and that it wasn't possible to change it. We were offered a change of room but this was impossible as we had to leave immediately. We were offered a fan which we accepted. On return to the room the 3rd time later that night, the temperature was ridiculously high and nearly unbearable; the vent was blowing hot. The fan was of little use as the window would not open so it simply circulated stale air. We also noticed the blinds would not fully close so early morning sunlight brought an abrupt end to an already terrible night's sleep. On check out, the person at the desk made no inquiry into the quality of our stay and we simply left the keys on the desk. I then had to call the hotel later for a copy of the receipt as one wasn't emailed. I stay in hotels 60+ nights/year and this was one of the worst for quality, value and customer service. I will not be returning.

The disinfectant water in the hotel corridor tastes very heavy, and it also smells moldy. The room is generally hygienic, but this hotel has a super large water slide, very suitable for bringing a baby, parking is also convenient

Room was clean, modern, and quite. We were at the end of a hall, so that probably helped. We stayed in a bi-level King suite, which I would highly recommend. The view from the room was not pretty, just a roof of an adjacent building. However we are not in Winnipeg to look out the hotel room window. Bed was very comfortable and the excellent water pressure in the shower was wonderful. At night, the living room area was rather dark and could use a lighting upgrade. Hotel staff were very friendly, from the breakfast (they should have a sign saying ”please seat yourself” - as guests sometimes wait a while for host to come over and tell them to seat where ever they want) to the pleasant staff at the front desk. Always lots of staff at reception, so no waiting. Although we didn't use the pool area, we looked at it, and it was one of the most appealing looking hotel pools we've ever seen. We used the attached underground parking for 5 days - no issues. Parking area is quite large with numerous levels, would seem to be ample space. Easy in/out access throughout the day.

We spent two midweek nights here. This lovely downtown hotel was built in 1913, and has a beautiful early 20c lobby. If you stay in an historic hotel, you have to understand that some things will not be as good as staying at a modern hotel. For example, bedrooms and bathrooms will often be smaller, there may not be a pool, etc. But for us, being a part of history is enjoyable, and we've stayed in many hotels with an historic background. We found the Fort Garry to be a lovely place---the historic vibe is definitely there. The hotel's location is great---you can walk to the riverside Forks Historic District, with its famous market, museums, etc. And the hotel is only a block from the historic railroad station. Yes, our room was a bit small, but the bed was comfortable. We asked for a room with a good view, and got one on the 5th floor with a nice view of the railroad station and garden areas nearby. The staff here were exceedingly friendly, from the front desk staff to the restaurant servers. For example, our breakfast server from the previous day made a special effort to come over and talk to us the next day, even though she was not our server that day. Really good effort to make you feel comfortable! The hotel has a very nice fitness room, but no pool (you can pay for pool privileges at an adjacent building). The beautiful hotel restaurant (Oval Room) also reeks of history. We had breakfast there two times and dessert (not dinner) once. It's highly rated, and the food was very good. Parking here can be an issue. You can self-park on a fairly small one floor lot on the hotel's first floor, or down below in a basement garage. The first floor lot often fills up with patrons of the restaurant or business functions, but the basement lot was never full, and we used that one on both nights of our stay. Just note that the basement garage has no elevator. Overall, we had a delightful stay at the Fort Garry.

The hotel is very clean and tidy, and the decoration is relatively modern. The location is definitely the best, the area is very lively at night and very safe. Opposite the Human Rights Museum, the view is superb. There are plenty of parking spaces, but the price is a bit expensive. The only downside is that there is no swimming pool.

Didn’t want to pay the high prices downtown so opted for this hotel with relatively easy access to downtown. This is an older place that has been kept up fairly. The rooms all have a hallway out front of the room which then looks at the pool, hallway or outside. Parking is included in the room price and there is a large lot. Two story hotel with stairs, not sure if there is an elevator. The pool looked nice and there was a family enjoying it when I looked. We had a double queen room, two queens, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, fridge (noisy as sits on the counter, not on the floor), efficient bathroom with necessary amenities including hair dryer. Enough hangers, ironing board, complimentary wifi, TV, cable, table, 3 chairs, clock and decent lighting. Beds were soft, 3 large pillows each bed. Continental breakfast included, boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, bread (toast), cream cheese, jams, cereal, coffee, waffles and juices, nicely laid out basic but filling. Great location, beer store next door, Freshco and Sals also nearby. Across the street is Superstore and more shopping a short drive away. No real problems but for some reason housekeeping came into the room when my wife was sleeping and there was a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, they obviously missed it. Stayed a second time in July, upper level room, 203 which faces Fermor so a bit of road noise but not a problem. The bar smokers that congregate outside made more noisy than the traffic. The roof was being redone so when we arrived the room had a bit of a tar smell but diminished over time. The next morning, they were working around 7 so there was roof noise. The hotel warned us but we stayed and overall not a problem, they didn’t work on Sat and Sun. The work has to be done sometime. Large room, 2 queens, fridge, microwave, Keurig, bathroom w. tub/shower and the usual stuff. My wife thought the room needed a little work, some water stains on the ceiling (probably why they were working on the roof) and the sitting chairs could have used a cleaning. We had Room 203 with a view of the front parking lot and Fermor. Still have complimentary breakfast as listed above. Overall a good value hotel for a short stay, we’ll stay again sometime.

I booked a room at this location to have a night’s rest while driving across Canada. This hotel is conveniently located near the highway and food establishments. After a long day of driving we arrived at this hotel for the night. I found the bed had been made up; however clearly not changed. There were many hairs on the sheets and the bedspread. The gentleman working at the front desk came down to see it and immediately brought fresh linens. Changing the bed was the last thing I felt like doing after a day of driving. When I travel, I always bring cleaning wipes and do my own surface clean, especially since COVID. I was mortified to see how dirty the wipes were after wiping off the desk and counter. It was bad enough that I brought the wipes to the front desk to show the gentleman working. If it wasn’t for the apologies and pleasant demeanour of the gentleman working at the front desk I would have packed up and left. Unfortunately, someone not doing their job can reflect negatively on the whole establishment. I would highly recommend management doing regular checks. I do have to say once settled the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There is an odour of stale cigarette smoke, likely from people smoking outside the patio doors. All of the front staff were very pleasant. This was the first Choice Hotel that I was actually acknowledged as a Diamond member. I can’t speak about breakfast options as I was gone early. Would I stay again, no. The manager did reverse my charges for the inconvenience.

Very clean, personable staff from Housekeeping to Maintenance to Booking/Courtesy Desk. I’m so impressed with this hotel that I recommend the staff get a raise or at least a nice perk of some kind. I have never stayed in a better hotel. I cannot rave about it enough. Everyone is so kind, helpful and smiling. We stayed in a room with a kitchenette but had food that needed the oven. Teresa even heated up our chicken! It’s too bad we live so far away as this would be the perfect place to stay on a regular basis. Kudos to all!

CCam TruongIt was such a seamless experience for a short-term feeling home like stay. Val is such a gentle lady and really care for you as a special family member. You can find a home-made small piece of chocolate on your bed, enjoy the warmth of a cozy outdoor hot tub. See the photo. Feel like home is what they are trying hard every day to make you that footprint in every details that you will see in this rental property. I named it a value-for-every-penny experience that was hardly to hard from anywhere in the world, but a place to feel like home managed by 2 generous & warm-hearted women. I don’t want to write too much because probably I could not book them next time. LOL

GGuest UserOn the whole my experience was very good. I was told I would have a certain room but upon arrival another identical room was provided. When I made the reservation I asked for an early check in, as I have a physical disability, and was told they would do their best to accomodate me. It did take longer than expected even after I arrived an hour later than planned but it was still ”early”. Noah is a Star at the front desk and was super helpful and professional while delivering a genuine and personable demeanor. Later I received a call from another representative at the front desk asking how the room was, which is a nice touch and I arranged for a ”Wake-Up Call” for the next morning. The ”Wake-Up Call” was not delivered though. The noise of the operating elevators was noticeable. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The toilet was very low to the ground;one of the lowest I've ever seen but the shower and the finishes in the Bathroom were very good. I would definitely stay there again. Details are so important and when they are not performed well it lets the entire Team down. Quality service at any price- point is worth the effort just as is a Quality pay-scale. Reputation is Everything.

GGuest UserGenerally, this a very nice hotel and the price is amazing given its central location. The staff are excellent, helpful and friendly. We also enjoyed the modern feel of our room. We were well stocked with clean towels, and bedding was comfy and clean. As cons, you could tell looking at the nooks and crannies along the walls that a more thorough cleaning is needed soon. Housekeeping was also unavailable for two days of our stay due to staff shortages. While this didn't really affect us, and I do appreciate there are industry wide issues, it's something to keep in mind if you require daily cleaning. Truthfully, our biggest issue was the noise and disturbances outside that we heard at night. Again, this isn't the hotel's fault by any means but potential visitors should be aware. Although we only stayed 3 nights, I got woken up frequently by ambulances, police car sirens, racing cars, and once even by a 4am altercation outside on Portage. We were all the way up on the 14th floor. Ear plugs helped but it didn't dull out everything. So, if you're noise sensitive, maybe ask for a room facing Ellice or Hargrave? Parking at the nearby secured Indigo parkade is also $20/day so don't forget to factor that into your budgeting.

GGuest UserChose this because my usual Delta was fully booked. Location is close to airport and downtown (although I was warned by locals that it is not safe to take a walk around). Hotel itself is classic Residence Inn. Spacious rooms with all amenities. Reception staff provided welcome chocolates and water bottles every time I asked. Some of the places needed more cleanliness & upkeep as the place was rundown except the lobby area. Overall, a decent two night stay.

GGuest UserStayed two nights mid-week in August on a ”Gold” level floor. The room -- two double beds -- was very small. The beds were comfortable and the furnishings nice but dated. The room was clean and TV and wifi worked fine. Housekeeping on the first morning did a very thoughtful job making up the room and anticipating our needs based on uses day before. BUT the keycards are unpredictable and the elevators wobble and shake. We stayed on a ”gold” level floor, which are supposedly their nicest rooms, with access to a lounge. Service was good but very inconvenient traveling between the 18th and 19th floors on elevator. Self park is inconvenient (valet is available). Overall, I wouldn't chose this hotel again.

BBirdie13The only reason cleanliness is rated a 3 is because our room had a smell to it (not bad, it could just be the cleaning products), other than that it was clean. It’s located on the outskirts of winnipeg which is lovely for driving out of town. The service was awesome, everyone from workers to people staying was friendly, it is a very welcome and warm environment. We ended up with a top floor room and was able to move onto the ‘motel’ style rooms, which was very appreciated. The breakfast that comes with the hotel really exceeded our expectations, REAL eggs, the crispiest best hash browns, and the toast was bacon was good too. They had an interesting cinnamon bun french toast that i’d definitely try next time. They have a pantry/ little convenience store in the lobby, and I’d say the prices are reasonable, definitely would expect them to be more. On the downside the beds are on the stiffer side, but the pillows are of good quality. this wouldn’t be my first choice to come back to in winnipeg but for the price and good meal included, it’s top #5.

GGuest UserWe fled here after being evacuated from the Marlborough due to an ”emergency fumigation operation.” It's just down the street, which means same great location! Also, while one night here cost almost as much as three nights at the Marl (lol), after our experience there the professionalism was worth it. Remote / TV weren't working, but a call downstairs sent a friendly guy up who was quick to fix it. Highly recommended if you need a place downtown in the Peg.

GGuest UserThis is no place for elderly, females or families. If you want cheap, stay here. It is very inexpensive and the rooms and staff are nice (ask for ”medical discount”). BUT.. If you are elderly, female or a family please find a better place. We were accosted and threatened by a large young man with scars on his face because I asked him to wait for the next elevator (there was a limit of two people in the elevator at a time due to social distancing and my elderly mom was with me), but he pushed in anyway. With no mask on either.. We had to exit the elevator and wait for another. He looked at me and said ”What? You got a problem? What's your problem!?” He said the same thing to me in the lobby as we came out of the next elevator. I was very afraid. I saw him going back and forth from the hotel many times visiting vehicles in the parking lot. I am convinced he was selling drugs out of his hotel room. But that wasn't the only thing.. As soon as the sun went down gangs of very loud motorcycles began racing up and down the streets in front of the hotel. It seemed like it was some kind of circuit. Then cars would race. All this was punctuated all night long with sirens. One night we heard loud gunshots. It seemed like the police abandoned the downtown area at sunset - just like a movie where the gangs took over the city at night. We were freaked out. If you're a gangster or a gang-banger this place would be ideal, but it's definitely not for a regular person, females, elderly folk or family. We never felt safe and despite our concerns the staff never helped us feel any safer. They never enforced their mask rules or social distancing rules. I think they were just as afraid of the riffraff in the hotel as we were. We will NEVER stay there again. It's simply not worth the risk.

We had to overnight at the Winnipeg airport and booked this hotel through *******. First, the ******* ad said one room left which was not correct. Second, this hotel is NOT near the airport as advertised (and in fact appeared to be in an industrial area with few amenities). Third, it is a terrible hotel. Only thing going for it is that it is clean and freshly painted. The reception staff were more concerned with getting our damage deposit than our condition. The grey painted cement block rooms are on the 2nd floor and no elevator. The room sink was disconnected under the counter so our first experience was a flood when the faucet was turned on. The single window had an air conditioner that was loud and the fan blew air directly at the head of one bed less than 2 feet away. Sleep was difficult. There were no glasses or cups and the lonely coffee maker had no supplies of anything, even coffee. There were no hangers. We were told that there had been a new housekeeper that day which does not explain all the issues encountered. Finally when we left very early, we complained about the situation and were told the owner would call us. Not surprisingly, no call. Do not stay in this hotel. UBER costs (there is no shuttle) and the room rate are more than the real hotels immediately beside the airport.
