Notes on Terracotta Warriors:

Notes on Terracotta Warriors:

Terracotta Warriors, also known as the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army, are located 1.5 km south of Xiyang Village, Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. They are the mausoleum of the first Qin emperor, Qin Shi Huang. The following is a detailed introduction to the Terracotta Warriors: 1. Historical Background: - The construction of the Terracotta Warriors began in 246 BC and took nearly 40 years to complete. After Qin Shi Huang unified the six kingdoms, he ordered the construction of a large-scale mausoleum to consolidate his rule. The Terracotta Warriors are part of the mausoleum and were used as burial objects. This reflects the power of the Qin Dynasty and the authority of Qin Shi Huang, and also embodies the ancient Chinese funeral culture and social hierarchy. 2. Excavation Process: - In March 1974, villagers in Xiyang Village, Lintong County, Shaanxi Province, accidentally discovered some terracotta fragments while digging a well. After archaeological exploration and trial excavation, it was confirmed that this was a large-scale burial pit, namely the No. 1 Terracotta Warriors Pit. - In 1976, the archaeological team excavated the No. 2 Pit at the northern end of the eastern side of the No. 1 Pit. In May of the same year, the No. 3 Pit was discovered. - In 1979, the No. 1 Pit was opened to the public; in 1989, the No. 3 Pit was opened; in 1994, the No. 2 Pit was opened during excavation. In 2009, researchers re-excavated the No. 1 Pit of the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Warriors. 3. Architectural Layout: - The Terracotta Warriors Pits are underground tunnel-style earthen and wooden structures. A large pit about 5 meters deep is dug from the ground, and parallel earthen walls are built in the middle of the pit. Wooden pillars are arranged on both sides of the walls, and horizontal beams are placed on the pillars. The horizontal beams and earthen walls are densely covered with wooden planks, and a layer of reed mats is laid on the wooden planks, followed by a layer of yellow earth, forming the roof of the pit. The roof of the pit is about 2 meters higher than the ground surface at that time. The bottom of the pit is paved with blue bricks, and the internal space from the top of the pit to the bottom is 3.2 meters high. - The three burial pits are arranged in a "pin" shape. The No. 1 Pit has the largest area and is a rectangular military formation dominated by infantry and chariots; the No. 2 Pit is a convex pit facing east, which is a multi-armed pit covering cavalry, chariots, and infantry. It is the essence of the Terracotta Warriors Pits; the No. 3 Pit is the smallest, with a "concave" shape, and most of the interior is wooden chariots and guards holding spears; the No. 4 Pit has a pit but no terracotta figures. 4. Unearthed Artifacts: - Terracotta figures: Currently, about 8,000 terracotta figures have been discovered, with different shapes. Each terracotta figure has a different outfit, expression, gesture, and facial expression. The height is generally between 175 and 180 cm. They include senior military officers, infantry, kneeling archers, cavalry, and charioteers, realistically reflecting the organization, equipment, and combat methods of the Qin army. - Terracotta horses: The terracotta horses are about 172 cm high and 200 cm long. They are not very large, with relatively heavy heads, prominent nasal bones, thick and short necks, low forelocks, broad and slightly concave backs, and relatively wide chests. - Weapons: There are various weapons, including halberds, spears, halberds, axes, maces, lances, bows, and crossbows, showcasing the superb weapon manufacturing technology of the Qin Dynasty. 5. Artistic Value: - The Terracotta Warriors are tall and realistic, with meticulous techniques. In the overall layout, the repetition of numerous upright and static figures creates a majestic momentum, leaving an awe-inspiring and unforgettable impression. The facial expressions and body postures of each terracotta figure are carefully carved, with distinct personalities and vivid images, possessing high artistic value. They provide valuable physical materials for the study of ancient Chinese sculpture art. 6. Visiting Information: - Ticket price: Full price ticket is 120 yuan/person, student ticket is 60 yuan/person. People aged 65 or above (including 65), disabled persons, active Chinese military personnel, and minors under 16 years old are entitled to free admission. However, free visitors need to make an appointment in advance on the official ticketing website. - Transportation: You can take Metro Line 9 from Xi'an city center to Huaqingchi Station, then transfer to a bus or taxi to the Terracotta Warriors景区; you can also choose to take a tourist bus from the east square of Xi'an Railway Station. When visiting the Terracotta Warriors, it is recommended to learn about the relevant historical and cultural knowledge in advance, or hire a tour guide for explanation. This will help you better understand the value and significance of the Terracotta Warriors. At the same time, pay attention to the protection of cultural relics, and do not touch or damage the exhibits.

Xi'an!! Xi'an!! The newly opened cliff garden restaurant is amazing. Live Enjoy the autumn in the mountains. It's so chill to have tea by the stove. The newly opened cliff restaurant in Bailuyuan is amazing (brand new). Enjoy the fresh air in a place without a ceiling, and play with two cute little sheep. No minimum spend, Western food, coffee, and Thai food. The view is even more beautiful on a sunny day, and you can take 100 photos. The outdoors is my spiritual sanctuary. Shaanxi

Amazing guide!

Amazing guide!

I just got back from Xi'an, and I'm totally blown away by the Terracotta Army and the Grand Tang Mall! This trip was a feast for the eyes and a cultural deep dive. Without further ado, here's my guide: Terracotta Army Museum Tickets: Buy them in advance on the official WeChat public account and choose your time slot. Guide: Absolutely essential! Otherwise, you're just looking at a bunch of clay figures. Hire a professional guide at the museum, rent an audio guide, or find an electronic guide online. It'll help you truly experience the grandeur of the Qin Dynasty. Visiting Order: Start with Pit 1 for the full impact of the "Eighth Wonder of the World." The vast army formation evokes the might of the Qin army sweeping across the six states. Then, head to Pit 2, the highlight with its diverse troop types. Finally, visit Pit 3, the smallest but representing the command center. Grand Tang Mall Opening Hours: Open all day, but the Tang Dynasty atmosphere truly comes alive after dark when the lights come on. Performances: Check the show schedule on the WeChat public account beforehand. Don't miss out on the "Dancing Lady" and "Li Bai's Poetry" performances. Food: The food here is incredible! From zeng gao (steamed sticky rice cake) and jing gao (small glutinous rice cakes) to biang biang noodles and rou jia mo (meat sandwich), every bite is a taste of Xi'an's vibrant street food scene. Photos: Picture-perfect spots everywhere! Wearing a hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing) takes your photos to the next level, transporting you back to the Tang Dynasty. Restaurant Recommendation: Lao Bai Jia Noodle Restaurant (try the three-in-one, two-in-one, or four-in-one combos). Everything is delicious! Important Notes: 1. The Terracotta Army is crowded. Go early to avoid peak hours. 2. The Grand Tang Mall gets packed, especially during holidays. Keep your belongings safe. 3. Xi'an food is spicy. If you can't handle the heat, let the restaurant know. My Xi'an trip was unforgettable. Seeing the Terracotta Army felt like stepping back in time, witnessing the vast changes of history. The Grand Tang Mall brought the prosperity and romance of the Tang Dynasty to life. Everyone, go visit!

Different Service Area~ Ziwu Service Area

Here, it's not just a service area, but also a convergence point of art and life ~ Xi'an's first internet-famous service area—Ziwu Service Area, which integrates various entertainment projects and forms a good match with Ziwu Wenji. 💚 The first floor is the main venue of the trendy play factory, with 31 kinds of entertainment and sports projects, such as tennis, bowling, simulated skiing, golf, archery, and more than a dozen sports projects in the digital sports hall; there is also a VR hall, which has exciting experience projects such as VR motorcycles and VR roller coasters; and console games suitable for family and friends to play together. 💚 The second floor's Ziwu Wenji is an elegant tea culture space, with the overall decoration in warm white, paired with wooden tables and chairs, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere. There are two large floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, providing classic books and children's favorite picture books. Here, you can order a special tea, such as Floating Cloud Tea or Beer Tea, enjoy a leisurely time, and appreciate the beautiful scenery of the Qinling Mountains. The top floor has a free children's playground, a happy place for kids, making it convenient for parents to take care of their children while relaxing. 💚 In addition to the special services of Ziwu Wenji, the southern area also has shopping malls, restaurants, fruit shops, etc., offering various delicacies and goods; the northern area has an RV campsite with independent courtyards, suitable for family gatherings and friends' team-building camping. 💚 In general, Ziwu Wenji breaks people's perception of traditional service areas, integrating elements of culture, leisure, and entertainment, providing a unique place for passing drivers and tourists to stop, rest, and entertain.

Xi'an and the Terra-cotta Soldiers, China

Xi'an and the Terra-cotta Soldiers, China

I went during the off season (November) which I highly recommend. I've heard in the summer the building these soldiers are in can be extremely hot and crowded. In November is was a little chilly but you didn't need more than a sweater, no lines for anything and at most you had two people infant of you so just wait a second and they will move and you will have the view you wanted. The soldiers are amazing, I couldn't believe how incredible they are but also that they are colored which is something I never knew. Its unfortunate that some lost their colors and others are being protected out of sight. Maybe one day we will be able to see them in all their colourful glory again.

Travel to Xi'an

"Once you enter Chang'an, you gaze upon a thousand years" Every step in Xi'an feels like walking through a thousand years of history, and the wind you feel seems to be infused with deep culture. The Bell Tower, Xi'an City Wall, Terracotta Army of the First Emperor of Qin, and the Great Tang All Day Mall are must-visit spots. Xiaonanmen Morning Market, Sajinqiao Food Street, and Yongxingfang are also highly recommended places to find delicious food. (Bell Tower, it is recommended to go to the outdoor observation deck on the 5th floor of Kaiyuan Mall to enjoy the panoramic view. The platform is not large, but it offers a commanding view.)
