During my trip in Yunnan, we did a night stay at Shangri-la and it was a memorable time.. We went to “Songzanlin Scenic Area”, which is a 20 mins drive away from the city of Shangrila and can easily catch a didi. The ticket for the entrance is 90 rmb which includes the bus ride towards the “Gedan Songzalin Lamasery”, which is one of the oldest Buddhist Monasteries in Yunnan. The walk up through the village towards the Monastery is absolutely breathtaking and the cultural architecture and the colors and just the atmosphere of the whole place is really worth a visit.. You may get a sneak peek into the lives of the monks during your visit. Located nearby the city, it is easily accessible. The easiest way to get to it is by taking a taxi or Didi from your location to the Songzanlin ticket office. When purchasing your tickets, you have the option of taking a bus. Shangri-La Wudi Lake Travel Notes 🌄 Morning Departure: • We departed from Shangri-La City at around 8:30 am and drove along the winding mountain road. Along the way, we enjoyed the stunning scenery, including snow-capped mountains🏔️, campsites, and primeval forests🌳, as if we were in a series of vivid paintings. 🚗 Road Experience: • The road to Wudi Lake is a bit difficult to drive on, and cars with higher chassis are probably easier to drive. There are landslide sections on the road, with two more serious ones. There are no guardrails on the side, and the steepness is quite intimidating. 🌿 Wudi Lake Scenery: • Wudi Lake, meaning "Wodi Tso" in Tibetan, is located in the heart of Dilong Snow Mountain. It is a high-altitude snowmelt lake at an elevation of 3,800 meters, consisting of two plateau lakes. The lake water is clear, reflecting the towering snow-capped mountains; the forest is dense, with fir trees covered in moss reaching the sky; the water plants are lush, with lazy cattle and sheep scattered around; time passes slowly, with long smoke rising from the wooden houses; birds sing and cicadas chirp, making this hidden paradise full of spiritual energy. 🏞️ Hiking Experience: • We not only hiked around the lake but also arranged for camping at Wudi Lake, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of this secret place. • Leisurely Wudi Lake Hiking Route: No guide is needed, as this route has minimal elevation gain. The dishes are mainly stir-fried, with good taste, normal prices, and portions. 🏕️ Accommodation Experience: • Wudi Lake Secret Tent Camp, where you can set up your own tent or book a tent at the camp. The advantage is its location next to Wudi Lake, but the downside is the high price of over 1,000 yuan. Even if you bring your own tent, it costs 200 yuan per tent. 📸 Photography Tips: • The moss forest by the lake is a great place for photography. Songzanlinsi: A Yellow Wonder

#discoverchina Even though it has the title of The Little Potala Palace, there was nothing little about this monastery that is painted in bright yellow and orange and its gold coated roof ornaments, each with its own meaning and representation. The pricier ticket comes with a bus service and a guide who detailedly explains every single major painting or history (which I had to skip most of due to time constraints) but you do have to climb about 100 steps up to the monastery in the thin air so do bring your oxygen containers. The view from the balcony of the main hall is stunning: the wetlands, the tiny village in which the monks live, the golden statutes, and the monks below performing rituals.

🚗 Shangri-La Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge International Youth Hostel is also called Tinas, and it is a youth hostel that can accommodate foreign tourists. If you take the direct bus to Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge, it will take you to this hostel. 🚗 A few years ago, I took a bus from Lijiang to Shangri-La, passing by Tiger Leaping Gorge. The driver seemed to be the owner of this hostel. At that time, I just walked around Tiger Leaping Gorge, and this time I came to walk the high road, so I thought I would stay here. Apart from being a bit far from the halfway hostel (1–2 hours' walk), everything else is very convenient, and the owner is very friendly. 🚗 Because I arrived late, I just asked for a bed, and I didn't expect to have a room to myself, with a view of the gorge outside. The only downside of the dormitory is that the toilet and shower are outside, so you have to go out, and it is a bit cold outside at night.
