An amazing early birthday treat for my son’s 8th birthday at Alton Towers. The driver was excellent, the coach ride was smooth, and the hotel package was great, offering dinner, bed, and breakfast, with delicious food and a lovely room. The package included two days at the park, and we had an incredible time enjoying thrilling rides as a family. Highly recommend and would absolutely book again, especially at such an affordable price!

We booked the Eat, Sleep and Play package for £230. Arriving around 12:30, we went straight into the park. Fortunately, it was quite quiet, so we managed to enjoy most of the rides during the afternoon. We checked in just after 4 PM and stayed in the Western Cabins, which were really nice—better than some caravans we’ve stayed in. We booked our meal ahead and all sat together. However, there’s a surcharge if you want something different than the included meal. The kids' portions were a bit small, and the food overall was average. The evening entertainment was handled by only two staff members, who did a good job entertaining the kids, though everything wrapped up by 9:30. We had a good night’s sleep in the cabin and went for breakfast at 8:45, but the options were very limited, and we had to pay extra for lukewarm food. Most park areas didn’t open until 10:30, with some not opening until 12, which felt unreasonable given we were paying customers already on site. Overnight guests should have earlier access, similar to Alton Towers. We managed to do most of the rides before leaving around 2 PM, as the kids started to get bored. Overall, the kids enjoyed themselves, but it’s unlikely we would visit again.

My recent journey with West Midlands Railway from London Euston to Stoke-on-Trent was extremely disappointing. During my journey, I was issued a Penalty Fare because the ticket inspector stated that my 26–30 Railcard had expired. However, my Railcard showed an expiry date of 29 June 2026, which was the same day I was travelling. I genuinely believed it was still valid and had purchased my ticket in good faith. The situation was handled in a way that left me feeling embarrassed, confused, and distressed. Instead of taking the time to explain the issue clearly or considering my circumstances, I was issued a Penalty Fare immediately. As a genuine passenger who had paid for my journey, I found the experience upsetting and lacking in understanding. I hope West Midlands Railway reviews how these situations are handled and ensures that staff provide clearer guidance and better customer service, especially when there is genuine confusion about Railcard validity. Travelling by train should be a straightforward and positive experience, but unfortunately, this journey was one of the most unpleasant travel experiences I have had.

We recently enjoyed a peaceful glamping break on a beautiful farm near the village of Milwich in Staffordshire. Surrounded by rolling countryside and open fields, the spacious bell tents offered the perfect blend of comfort and nature. Waking up to birdsong, fresh country air, and sweeping rural views made it easy to switch off from everyday life. Milwich is a small village located between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent, around 12 miles south-west of Stoke-on-Trent, making it an ideal base for exploring the wider Staffordshire countryside. One of the highlights of our stay was a day trip to the Peak District National Park. As Britain’s first national park, the Peak District is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, picturesque villages, and excellent walking trails. Around 20% of the national park lies within Staffordshire, offering easy access from Milwich. We headed to the stunning Winnats Pass near Castleton, one of the most iconic locations in the Peak District. The winding road cuts through a spectacular limestone valley, with towering cliffs on either side creating unforgettable views. Nearby, a walk up Mam Tor rewarded us with panoramic scenery across the Hope Valley and surrounding peaks. Back at the farm, the evening was just as memorable. As the sun dipped below the horizon and the countryside fell quiet, we relaxed outside our tent and enjoyed the simple pleasure of being surrounded by nature. The combination of a rural farm stay in Milwich and a day exploring the Peak District made for the perfect Staffordshire getaway—peaceful, scenic, and wonderfully refreshing. Travel tip: If you have extra time, visit The Roaches, Dovedale, or the Manifold Valley, all popular beauty spots within the Staffordshire section of the Peak District.

I stayed in the twin room with a wet room, was very spacious. Only thing was the bed was a bit squeaky! Had access to the garden, communal living room & kitchen which was great. Day2: got up for breakfast and plenty of options! A One-Day Trip to Alton Towers in Hallo ween(Staffordshire) My university organized a visit to Alton Towers. We travelled from Leicester city centre directly to the park by air-conditioned coach, and the journey took around 1.5 hours. Most of the park’s basic facilities are free to use once you’ve entered. However, during seasonal events such as Halloween (known as Scarefest), certain attractions like haunted mazes require an additional fee. There are several food outlets throughout the park offering hamburgers, sausages, ice cream, and other snacks, so it’s easy to find something to eat. While some rides and facilities looked a little dated, they were still enjoyable overall. Upon arrival, we saw a lake surrounded by beautifully decorated buildings in an open plaza area. These buildings house bars, restaurants, and gift shops. You can also take a ride on the park’s cable car system (the Skyride) with your friends and family members, which is free and offers a bird’s-eye view of the park. We walked along several main pathways lined with historic structures and ancient trees. Alton Towers is well known for its landscaped gardens, and we passed elegant Victorian-style glasshouses (conservatories) that visitors can explore. The historic setting, especially the old towers and gardens, created a perfect atmosphere for the Halloween season—definitely worth photographing. We spent some time sightseeing and went on a few rides. Queue times could be quite long—I remember waiting about an hour for one roller coaster. The park features a wide variety of attractions, including pirate ship rides, themed areas like a Wild West section, mazes, and water rides. One of the most memorable attractions was inside the Towers ruins themselves, honestly I had never seen a ruins within an amazement park before. Although it looks like an ancient castle, it is actually part of the original estate building rather than a reconstructed structure. Inside, we experienced a rotating illusion ride (similar to a “haunted swing” or madhouse), which was both disorienting and fun. At night, the park became even more atmospheric. Green, red, and blue lighting illuminated the buildings, creating a spooky ambiance. There were also outdoor musical and theatrical performances in nighttime, making it especially enjoyable for families with children. #Altontowers

📅 Itinerary Day Trip from London to Stoke-on-Trent 💺Comfortable, direct train from London Euston 🚖 At Stoke-on-Trent we took a short taxi to the 🎨🏭 Emma Bridgewater Factory and arrived in plenty of time for our 12pm booking. ℹ️ We checked in at the Tours desk located in the Seconds Shop, then headed to the cafe for a freshly, homemade Afternoon Tea. 🫖 🥪 🍰 The food was delicious and plentiful all served on Emma Bridgewater pottery of course! We couldn’t eat all the food, so we boxed up our leftovers to enjoy on our train journey home! 🕐 At around 1pm we returned to the check-in point where everyone booked on this time slot were split into three groups (around 8 per group/guide) then set off a few minutes apart. We were last to leave. 🏭 We started outside (take a brolly in case it’s raining) and took a very short downhill walk to the factory door. We went through every stage and process of the factory. Our tour guide was friendly, interesting and knowledgeable. He imparted lots of history and detail. We were encouraged to ask questions and talk to the staff at their work stations. It didn’t feel at all rushed. 🎨 Conveniently the tour ended at the Pottery Painting room. The experience price included a £20 allowance towards your chosen piece. There was plenty to choose from within budget and larger pieces if you wanted to spend more. There’s no cash refund if you go under budget. The space was well set out with clear instructions, plenty of materials and helpful staff on hand. 🥣 I chose to paint a French Bowl priced at £19.50. 🔥 We left our masterpieces to be glazed and fired and should receive a parcel delivery 📦 in around three weeks. 🛍️ And finally, we went shopping!! There are two shops. The Seconds and the Perfects.
