I recently visited the HMS Ocelot submarine at the Chatham Historic Dockyard, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of the entire visit. The submarine is the last Royal Navy vessel built at Chatham and served during the Cold War, so stepping aboard feels like walking straight into a piece of living history. Once inside, you immediately notice how tight the space is. The corridors are narrow, the ceilings low, and you have to climb through small circular hatches between compartments. It gives you a real sense of what life must have been like for the sailors who lived and worked in such confined conditions for months at a time. The atmosphere is very authentic — the metal walls, machinery, and sleeping bunks are all preserved, and the smell of oil and metal adds to the realism. The guided tour was excellent. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate, explaining how the crew operated the submarine, what daily life was like underwater, and sharing a few stories about the secrecy of Cold War missions. It made the whole experience much more engaging than just walking through on your own. The control room, periscope, and living quarters were particular highlights, and it was fascinating to see how every inch of space was used for something essential. If you are even slightly claustrophobic, be prepared — the interior is very cramped. But for most visitors, that sense of tightness is part of what makes the visit so powerful and memorable. It’s also worth noting that you need to climb ladders and duck through narrow spaces, so it’s not ideal for anyone with mobility issues.

another great find in Rochester, on the high street with easy access to the station, carpark and views of the castle if you sit outside. its a cosy wine bar with also serves up delicious brunch options, or you can sit here and read a book with a nice cup of coffee. a good selection of wines to choose from. there's another branch a view door away which serves cakes and breads, the olive bread is yummy.#bakery #rochester #kent #rochestercastle #travel #wine #brunch #bakery

I think this is the oldest bakery in Rochester, opened in mid 1800s and is very popular. located on the high street, very close to the station and car park. it serves a range of freshly baked breads, cakes, biscuits and pastries. the coffee is also very good and priced at £2 before 8am which is great for those travelling into work. The cheese and onion pastries was delicious and the doughnuts also look yummy. the staff are friendly!#travel #kent #bakery #rochester #rochestercastle

A great few hours fun from young to old experiencing air riffle shooting, archery and a walk in the great outdoors then back to camp for lunch ( quality jacket potato, cheese & beans), that’s been slow cooking over the fire and to finish off hot chocolate & s’mores around the campfire and admire the smells and views of the outdoors or adventure around the campfire play hide n seek or relax in a hammock Definitely a fun experience and will be booking again

I was looking for a different Santa experience this year for my 2 children ages 5&9 yrs and come across mission Christmas it was a good interactive experience although if you don’t like to be on your feet and walking for 45 mins or so then this experience is not for you it was alittle long for my youngest, and meeting Santa himself was not so good my youngest wouldn’t talk to him and my older child thought he was a grumpy miserable unfriendly man . Say no more!The whole experience itself was enjoyable but alittle on the expensive side.

Chatham is not the same anymore . TBH it’s quite scary walking down the high street , also very sad with the amount of shops that closed down and the amount of homeless on the streets :( since Debenhams closed , the highstreet is not worth it anymore unless your after £1 land and savers
