Preah Vihear Temple Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
This temple is impressive and much larger than it seems. First you have to take a 4wheel driver truck that can hold a lot of people (extra $25 charge per truck on top of $10 entrance fee) up the mountain and it is a ways up. Then you walk through the village at the base of the temple area. After a short walk to the starting point of the temple you have the option to go down (a lot of) stairs where we met a local military looking guy that took us a little further through an extremely small rural village to the border of Thailand and Cambodia and they offered us a seat to rest and showed us the fence and razor wire on the border and told us about the recent conflict with Thailand on the border.

Preah Vihear Temple 🇰🇭
#2024wish
During my recent journey, I embarked on a captivating expedition to the Preah Vihear Temple nestled in the heart of Preah Vihear Province. This remarkable destination boasts a breathtaking panorama and stands as a testament to Cambodia's rich ancient heritage. The sheer beauty of the temple left me awe-inspired, and I couldn't contain my excitement as I marveled at the intricate artistry and architectural brilliance that adorned its walls.
Prasat Preah Vihear, one of the most stunning Angkorian monuments, is perched on a clifftop near the Thai border. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Cambodian lowlands, situated 550m below. This temple holds great significance as a pilgrimage site, having been constructed by seven Khmer monarchs, starting with Yasovarman I and concluding with Suryavarman II. As with other temple-mountains of its time, Prasat Preah Vihear was designed to symbolize Mt Meru and was dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva.
When you visit Cambodia, you will find a destination that adds significance to your travels and leaves a lasting impression. It is a place that creates memorable experiences. #historicallandmarks #localguides #familytrip #mytravelhacks #preahviheartours #ancienttemples

Phreah Vihear Temple
#2024wish
I just had an enchanted day to visit the beautiful temple called Phreah Vihear Temple. The highest temple was built on top of the mountain, and it felt like we stood in the sky.
The Preah Vihear Temple, located in the northern part of Cambodia, was built by King Yasovarmamn I (887–900) in the 6th century. The temple was a significant part of Khmer culture and was a significant part of the political and economic growth of the region. It underwent over 300 years of consultation and remodelling under King Suryavarman II (1113–1150), leading to its transformation into one of the greatest Khmer temples of all time.
The temple is situated on the edge of a giant cliff at about 625 meters above sea level in Preah Vihear Province, near the Cambodia-Thai border. It has four levels and four courtyards, including five Gopuras, which served as the king's residence and shelters for pilgrims. The main temple complex includes the front stone stairway, the Nagaraj Courtyard, and the first-level Gropura.
The stairheads are seven-headed snakes called "Ngu Suang," facing north towards the Prasat. The heads and tails of these snakes resemble ordinary snakes, with the head portion being made from a single solid stone. The first-level Gopura is a Greek architecture pavilion with a cross plan on an elevated, rebated angle base on each roof doorway.
The temple is open from 8.00 to 16.00 hours and offers a memorable experience with its grand site, ornate Gopuras, and a wealth of decorative detail. The temple's location and historical significance make it a must-see attraction for visitors to northern Cambodia.
I would recommend visiting the temple if you want the most antique piece that will make you enchanted by its wonderful construction with art. #phreahvihear #ancientarchitecture #historicallandmarks #triptravel

The South Buffalo Horn Temple of Cambodia
#2024wish
During my recent trip to Banteay Meanchey Province in Cambodia, I had the pleasure of visiting the magnificent South Buffalo Horn Temple, also called the South Snaeng Krâbei Temple. This enchanting destination left a lasting impression on me with its breathtaking views and serene atmosphere. The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beauty that surrounded me, instantly feeling a sense of tranquility and relaxation.
The South Snaeng Krâbei Temple is a collection of three ancient brick temples that are situated in a row on an elevated platform, aligned in a north-south direction. These temples face east and boast sandstone doorframes adorned with intricately decorated sandstone base molding. Each temple consists of multiple levels, with the size gradually decreasing as they ascend. The brickwork of the temples incorporates false doors, although only fragments of this architectural feature remain today.
On the sides of the towers, you will find the customary false doors flanked by pilasters formed by the brickwork of the main structure. The central tower still retains its exquisite pediment decoration, which was a characteristic feature of temples built during that era.
To reach the South Sneng Krabei Temple, one must travel south from the North Sneng Krabei Temple along a dirt road. As of 04/22, there was no separate access road leading directly to the temple from this dirt road. However, it is relatively easy to navigate the field by motorcycle or on foot, as the temple is not far away.
You will be delighted by the stunning scenery of this place, creating unforgettable memories during your travels. #preahviheartours #historicallandmarks #ancienttemples

The North Buffalo Horn Temple of Cambodia
#2024wish
During my recent trip to Banteay Meanchey Province in Cambodia, I had the pleasure of visiting the magnificent of The North Buffalo Horn Temple that called North Snaeng Krâbei Temple). This enchanting destination left a lasting impression on me with its breathtaking views and serene atmosphere. The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beauty that surrounded me, instantly feeling a sense of tranquillity and relaxation.
North Snaeng Krâbei Temple is a collection of three sandstone temples surrounded by a laterite outer enclosure wall and an entrance pavilion on the eastern side. These temples, although never fully completed, are situated on a shared platform that runs in a north-south direction, with their doorways facing east. Among the three towers, the central one stands slightly taller than the others. However, it is the southern tower that captures the most attention due to its partially adorned state. Above the eastern doorway of the southern tower, there are relief carvings, as well as above the false doors on each side. Unfortunately, these carvings remain unfinished, except for the damaged ones above the east door. The pediment and lintel are present above the eastern door, while the southern false door only has a pediment, with the lintel no longer in place.

Trapeang Ampil Temple of Cambodia
#2024wish
During my recent trip to Banteay Meanchey Province in Cambodia, I had the pleasure of visiting the magnificent Trapeang Ampil Temple. This enchanting destination left a lasting impression on me with its breathtaking views and serene atmosphere. The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beauty that surrounded me, instantly feeling a sense of tranquility and relaxation.
Trapeang Ampil Temple, situated approximately 10 kilometers southeast of Choam Khsant, is an archaeological site that showcases the remnants of three distinct brick temples. These temples are built on a shared foundation, with two of them primarily constructed using sandstone for their superstructures while incorporating brick elements. The central temple, on the other hand, predominantly consists of brick, with sandstone utilized in the lower sections and doorways. During my visit, I observed that the site is meticulously safeguarded by a dense growth of thorny bamboo, which adds an element of challenge to exploring the area. However, the effort is truly worthwhile as it allows visitors to witness the intricate reliefs adorning the pilasters as well as the captivating iconography found in various fragments. These remarkable artistic features undoubtedly warrant further examination and study. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that Prasat Trapeang Ampil also exhibits remnants of an outer laterite wall, serving as a protective enclosure, and gopuras on the eastern and western sides. These architectural elements provide valuable insights into the historical and cultural significance of the site, further enhancing its allure and importance.
