Maybe seeing palm trees outside the window. Hearing scooters passing by. Feeling the humidity as soon as I step outside. As a traveller, these things would make me feel like I was on holiday. But if I lived there, they would simply become part of my normal morning. And I think that is a strange feeling. The things that make a place feel exotic to a traveller can eventually become ordinary to the people who live there. 🥥 I think I would love the slower feeling of life There is something about Hainan that made me feel like I did not always need to rush. The warm weather seems to encourage a slower rhythm. The beaches make you want to stay longer. The afternoons can feel less hurried. Sometimes, I imagine myself sitting somewhere with a cold drink, not needing to immediately go anywhere. That feeling would probably be one of the things I loved most about living there. After spending so much time rushing through life, I think it would be nice to have somewhere that constantly reminded me to slow down.

I arrived with very high expectations, thinking every corner would leave me speechless. But after spending time there, I realized that not every famous attraction lived up to the online hype. The busiest beaches were packed with tourists, especially during holidays. Instead of hearing only the sound of waves, I heard loud music, crowds, and people taking turns for the same photo spots. Sometimes it felt more like visiting a giant outdoor shopping district than escaping to nature. I also found that some commercial areas were filled with souvenir shops and expensive restaurants that looked almost identical. They were lively, but they didn't give me the authentic island atmosphere I was hoping for. That doesn't mean Hainan isn't worth visiting. I still loved the warm sea breeze, tropical fruits, fresh seafood, and beautiful sunsets. My favorite moments weren't at the famous landmarks—they were the quiet early mornings, walking along a less crowded beach, chatting with friendly locals, and simply watching the ocean without rushing to the next attraction. This trip reminded me that the most popular place isn't always the most memorable. A huge fairytale hotel on Ocean Flower Island, Danzhou. The Castle Hotel is located on an artificial island near Paipu Town in Danzhou, northwest of Hainan Island. The Castle Hotel is shaped like a castle and sits on the island's upper left petal. At the hotel entrance, you're greeted by a giant pink bunny. The spacious spaces from the reception area to the building's corridors create the feeling of being in a huge castle (and indeed, you are). Everything in the hotel is this size, except for the rooms. This speaks volumes about its large capacity; it's probably very busy during peak season! The ground floor has children's play areas. The second floor houses bars, restaurants, and a gym. The hotel is more geared towards families with children 👶 (this is reflected in its rating: #1 family-friendly hotel on Ocean Flower Island, and you can see it in the theme of the buildings and their rooms! Very unusual! We stayed in the forest building, and literally every detail speaks to this (rugs shaped like a lawn with frogs 🐸, legs on the nightstand and chairs shaped like animal paws 🐾). The hotel courtyard features a large outdoor pool with sun loungers and outdoor showers 🚿, as well as children's water play areas! When checking in, there was a bag hanging on the door handle containing a local gift 🧧 in the form of a silk Chinese scarf. A very nice bonus! The pool was deserted, so we went for a swim every morning before breakfast 🏊♂️ ❗️When visiting the pool, it is important to wear a swimming cap. If you don't have one, you can borrow one. At the lifeguard stand to the left of the pool! 🍽️ Breakfast: a buffet with a wide variety of dishes, from soups to pastries and freshly baked goods! You definitely won't go hungry! 😉 There's plenty of seating in the restaurant, but it's best to arrive either at the beginning or end of breakfast, as it gets quite crowded! However, the cabins have a bit of a smell, and there are plenty of other areas in the park for kids to play, so the yard isn't as useful as I thought it would be. 🔥 The bonfire party at night is lively, and there's a free karaoke machine. Eating barbecue while watching the beautiful moon and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere is very relaxing. 👶 There are also handicrafts for kids to make, frisbees to play with on the large lawn, and camping equipment available. 🧑‍💼 The park is large, and you'll need to take the electric sightseeing car to get around. A trip to Yerong beach is one of the most exciting adventures that happened to us in Hainan! It is a huge beach, that seems to be endless, with a fabulous white sand! It is quite wild, or you can say 'undeveloped', but for us it was an obvious advantage. There are nearly no people at all, except several fishermen with their nets. No one will disturb you here, and you can swim whenever you want! 🚌🚎🚕 It is not that easy to get here, even if you'll take a taxi to the beach, it would be a problem to find a taxi that will bring you back to the city. The road is quite bumpy and dusty as well, so even though you can always rent a scooter, we would definitely recommend to rent a car for several days. You can use sharing service immediately upon arrival to Baimajin train station (白马井站). 🍔🍟🥪 There are no cafes or restaurants on this beach, so be prepared to take some food and drinks with you. It is a great place to have a picnic with amazing view! 🌅🏝🏖 Absolutely surreal place, as such beaches are always overcrowded in China!
