Amasra: Turkey’s Hidden Gem 🇹🇷
I didn’t expect such a small town to leave such a big impression. Amasra, on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, is one of those places where you instantly slow down. Colorful houses, an ancient castle, fresh seafood and beautiful sunsets make it perfect for a relaxing escape.
📍 How to get there
The easiest way is by car from Istanbul. The drive takes about 5–6 hours and the road is scenic, especially during the last hour as you approach the Black Sea.
If you don’t have a car, take a bus to Bartın, then a local minibus (dolmuş) to Amasra. The ride takes only about 20 minutes.
🏨 How long should you stay?
Most visitors come for a day, but I highly recommend spending at least one night. Early morning and sunset are when Amasra is at its most beautiful, after the day-trippers leave.
🍴 Where to eat
Seafood is the highlight here. Choose one of the waterfront restaurants and order grilled fish with the famous Amasra Salad, made with around 20 fresh ingredients. It’s one of the town’s signature dishes and definitely worth trying.

If you’re looking for a destination that feels authentic, peaceful and far from mass tourism, Amasra is one of Turkey’s best-kept secrets. It may be small, but it’s full of character—and it’s a place I’d happily return to again.
