A Perfect Weekend Farm Getaway in Toronto 🍯🌾
Our latest trip took us to Gormley, Ontario. Though it's just a short drive from downtown Toronto, the entire town is surrounded by nature and filled with a charming rural countryside vibe 🥰. This time, we’re spotlighting Circling Hawk Honey & Mead in Richmond Hill—truly a hidden gem for escaping the city and reconnecting with nature on your days off! Not only can you learn about local honey and mead-making, but you can also sample sweet, pure honey products right on-site!
🌻 Highlights at a Glance
This trip is perfect for families, couples, or a group of friends looking for a relaxing outing. The farm experience includes learning about bees, tasting different honeys and meads, and picking up some treats to take home. The atmosphere is super chill, especially with a light breeze at sunset—a perfect spot for photos! Both nature lovers and families will love it.
🍯 Circling Hawk Honey & Mead
Located at 13433 Leslie St, Richmond Hill, ON L4E 1A2, Canada. Parking at the entrance is convenient, and though the spot feels like a hidden sanctuary, it’s easy to find. The farm features guided tours, a small market, and a tasting area where you can sample fresh honey. The mead has beautifully layered flavors, tasting just right in terms of sweetness. Besides honey and mead, they also sell beeswax products and natural handmade soaps—great for gifts or personal use.
🔎 Pro Tips for Your Visit
From my personal experience:
1. The farm isn't huge, but plan for 1.5 to 2 hours to fully enjoy the tour, tasting, and shopping.
2. If you catch a guided tour (recommend checking/booking on their website in advance), the staff are very passionate. They give deep insights into bee ecology, conservation, and the cycle of nature; kids will find it both fun and educational!
3. There’s a comfortable outdoor lounge area where you can sit back, enjoy a glass of mead in the breeze, and just zone out.
4. Photography enthusiasts, don’t forget your camera! In mid-summer, the farm is surrounded by sunflowers and wildflowers—totally Instagrammable!
✈️ Getting There & Transportation
About a 30-minute drive from downtown Toronto, or a quick trip from Richmond Hill or Markham—just head straight down Leslie St. There’s free parking on-site. If you’re not driving, a taxi or rideshare is the most convenient option.
🍯 Delicious Recommendations
We highly recommend the honey tasting flight—every variety has a unique flavor profile, allowing you to try everything from light to bold floral notes. The mead is also a must-try; it’s smooth with a lovely finish, perfect for pairing with light snacks.
⚡ Trip Tips
1. Remember to check the farm’s operating hours, as they sometimes host workshops or special holiday events.
2. There can be quite a few bugs in the summer, so you’ll be much more comfortable if you bring bug spray.
3. Support local farmers! The products you buy are incredibly fresh, and you’re supporting sustainable agriculture.
