The roads are generally easy to drive. Public transportation is inconvenient, so self-driving is highly recommended. ✨ Route sharing (one day is just right) After entering, you can take the scenic shuttle directly to Beauty Pool to skip a flat section. If you're fairly fit, walking in is also fine. Beauty Pool has a wide water surface with bamboo rafts, making for great photos by the water. Follow the stone steps along the valley and climb slowly—the stream babbles all the way, with pools and waterfalls of all sizes appearing one after another. Clear spring water flows beneath your feet, and dense forest flanks both sides. Along the way, you'll pass the Invisible Stone and the Great Waterfall. During the flood season, the waterfall thunders with tremendous force, and you can feel the mist on your face standing nearby. After climbing slowly for about 1.5–2 hours, you'll reach the Patriarch Hall and Jade Emperor Temple at the summit. On clear days, you can see the Central Plains Giant Buddha in the distance, with sweeping views of the rolling mountains. Two options for the descent: ① Take the slide down: CNY 30, moderate speed, easy on the knees, and a fun experience; ② Walk back the same way, taking in the canyon water views as you go, about 1 hour. The full circuit takes 3–4 hours without counting photo stops, so there's no need to rush. 🍜 Food and accommodation There are plenty of farmhouse restaurants at the entrance serving simple meals and local dishes at reasonable prices. If you'd like to stay overnight, nearby farmhouse inns cost just a few dozen yuan per night, and some include dinner and breakfast—great for those who don't want to make it a day trip. 💡 Practical tips from lessons learned 1. Some stone steps along the mountain path are near the water and get very slippery when wet. Be sure to wear non-slip athletic shoes—don't hike in sandals or flip-flops. 2. Temperatures in the mountains are lower than in the city, so bring a light jacket in spring and fall. In summer, mosquitoes are plentiful, so pack insect repellent. 3. When playing in the water, don't go near the deep pools—just wade in the shallows. Safety comes first. 4. There aren't many shops on the mountain, so bring a couple of bottles of drinking water and some light snacks. 5. On holidays, crowds increase, so set off early to avoid the midday rush. Overall impression: Liuyang Mountain & Tongtian River is not overly commercialized, with no crushing crowds. There's no need for intense hiking—water accompanies you the whole way, and even seniors and children can manage at a leisurely pace. Escaping the city on a weekend to breathe in the mountain air and see waterfalls makes this an excellent light hiking destination around Henan.
