Jesus overlooking the city of Lisbon

#celebratewithtrip The 1950s Sanctuary of Christ the King is a Catholic monument and shrine dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ overlooking the city of Lisbon, situated in Almada. The statue was inspired by the Christ of Redeemer statue of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The monument was erected on an isolated clifftop 133 meters above sea level. It consists of a trapezoidal pedestal of 82 meters height, formed by four arches and a platform, supporting the 28 meters image of Christ. The journey by public transport is not difficult, a scenic ferry ride from Cais do Sodre to Cacilhas ferry terminal, and then take the bus 3001 to the monument, the bus station is just beside the ferry terminal. For visitors, the main draw is the magnificent panoramic view over Lisbon and the Ponte 25 de Abril. €6 is the entrance fee to the viewing platform on the top by lift.
