"Five Pagodas Temple" in early winter.

Beijing Wuta Temple is located on the north bank of the Changhe River, east of Baishiqiao in Haidian District, Beijing. It was originally named Zhenjue Temple and was founded during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. Because there are five small stone pagodas on the high stone platform in the temple, it is commonly known as the Wuta Temple. The Vajra Throne Pagoda of the Five Pagodas Temple is a brick and stone structure. There are two arched doors on the north and south sides of the throne below. The six large characters "嘉建Vajra Throne" are embedded on the south arched door. The pagoda is covered with relief carvings, mainly images of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism. There are niches carved around the throne, with a total of 1,561 Buddha statues, earning it the reputation of "the pagoda of a thousand Buddhas". In the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Zhengjue Temple to avoid the name of Emperor Yongzheng. The temple was destroyed by fire in the late Qing Dynasty, and the Beijing Stone Carving Art Museum was established on the original site in 1987.
