MONICA TAYLOR

Just came back from Hemu in Xinjiang, and I have some hard truths to share

Hemu in winter really depends on luck to enter, as it's very prone to traffic control. On the day we went to Kanas, it snowed heavily and the road was closed, not allowing entry. On the third day, we were notified that the road was temporarily open, so we immediately turned around and went in. Our guide took us on an unusual route, climbing up the snowy mountain from the back hill, which was a bit dangerous, but truly beautiful. Overlooking the entire village from the mountaintop felt like a paradise. However, walking into the village of Hemu, I felt it was not as good as Baihaba; it was heavily commercialized, with many tourists, cars, and horse riders. The roads were quite dirty, and it was impossible to take a panoramic photo. We just wandered around and then left. 👉Tips: 1⃣️If you really can't get into Hemu, going to Baihaba is a great alternative, more localized, and the scenery along the way is even more beautiful. 2⃣️The snow in Hemu probably won't melt until mid-April, it's still very thick now, but the roads are a bit dirty. 3⃣️Hemu is quite photogenic, especially suitable for portrait photography. 4⃣️Climbing the back hill is quite strenuous, and it can be a bit dangerous without a professional guide. It is not recommended to go there. You can take the plank road from the entrance of the scenic area or ride a horse to reach the mountaintop in 20 minutes.
