Sudi of West Lake

Many people are familiar with Sudi, formerly known as Suli Causeway, which is a shaded causeway that runs through the north and south scenic areas of West Lake. It was constructed by the Northern Song Dynasty poet Su Shi (Su Dongpo) when he served as the governor of Hangzhou, using the silt dredged from West Lake, and has evolved over time. Later, the people of Hangzhou named it 'Sudi' in honor of Su Dongpo's achievements in managing West Lake. Now, as time has passed, Sudi has become a stunningly beautiful landscape strip, featuring six single-arched half-circle stone bridges built during the Northern Song Dynasty. From south to north, they are named Yingbo, Suolan, Wangshan, Yadi, Dong (Shu) Pu, and Kuahong. The spring scenery here is especially renowned, with the willows turning green and peach blossoms blooming, known as 'Sudi in the Spring Dawn,' which brings immense joy. Visitors are often captivated by the enchanting atmosphere of the spring breeze and the harmonious chirping of birds, prompting them to stop and take photos to commemorate their visit.
