Hangzhou Museum: Crystal Cup

The highlight of the Hangzhou Museum is undoubtedly the crystal cup. This glass, crafted from crystal during the Warring States period approximately 2,300 years ago, boasts a simple design. However, considering the size of the crystal used to make it, it is astonishingly luxurious. The fact that it was created 2,300 years ago adds to its wonder. Additionally, the pig and dog pens from the Western Jin dynasty, about 1,700 years ago, suggest that animals were kept in enclosures and domesticated. Interestingly, while the zodiac in Japan features the boar, in China it is represented by the pig. It is said that when the zodiac was introduced to Japan, pigs were not yet present in the country. Other fascinating exhibits include the Wu-Yue Border Map, which is famous for the saying "Wu and Yue share the same boat" (Hangzhou was part of Wu).
