The few remaining old public housing estates in Hong Kong

Shun Lee Village is located in Kwun Tong District, Kowloon, close to Fei Ngo Shan, the highest mountain in Kowloon. It has a history of more than 40 years since it was founded in 1978. Formerly known as Cemetery No. 7, the cemetery was originally planned to be used as a resettlement area, and the current Shunli Village was built several years later. The then Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Murray MacLehose, also visited the village to preside over the unveiling ceremony. Inside Shun Lee Shopping Centre, there used to be the first public housing estate cinema, named Shun Lee Theatre. It completed its historical mission in 1999 and was subsequently demolished and rebuilt to become today’s Shun Lee Estate Phase II. There is also Shun Lee Market, which has quite complete facilities to meet general daily needs.
