We took a bus to the Red Crowned Crane Nature Park in Kushiro City, wanting to see the famous red-crowned cranes. This is a nature reserve established specifically for the protection and restoration of Japan's national bird, the "red-crowned crane." Due to the weak conservation awareness in the past, wild red-crowned cranes were once on the verge of extinction. There are currently about 1,000 red-crowned cranes in Japan, mainly distributed in Kushiro Wetlands in Hokkaido. The original intention of this nature park was to save the red-crowned cranes, which are on the verge of extinction due to habitat destruction and overhunting. Through artificial incubation and rehabilitation, more than 100 red-crowned cranes have been successfully bred and released into the wild. Currently, there are about 10 to 20 red-crowned cranes living in the park permanently. It was only when we got here that we realized that the red-crowned cranes have very loud calls.
