The World of Lao Textiles and Handicrafts!

During my tour of Luang Prabang, I got to visit the Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre. There, I learned more about the textiles of Laos and the local women’s weaving traditions. I like how the business focuses on contributing to preserving the timeless weaving traditions. The profits at the souvenir shop go towards supporting the women. I got to see how the women were weaving in real time, as well as learn about symbols of the patterns on the woven fabrics, the life cycle of silk worms, natural dyeing processes, and bamboo weaving. The cultural center is on the banks of the Mekong River. I enjoyed learning about Laos’s beautiful cultures and traditions there.
