Venture into a Real-Life Fairytale at Mianzhu Taiping Reservoir! Folks, I can't believe some of you haven't heard of Mianzhu's Taiping Reservoir! It's a hidden gem for a day trip around Chengdu. The blue-green lake is surrounded by forests, making you feel like you've stepped into Jiuzhaigou in an instant, and the best part is, it's free! I'm sharing my travel experience and guide with you all. 🚗 Transportation I drove from Chengdu, which took about 1.5 hours. The road conditions are generally good, but there are some sharp turns and narrow roads near the reservoir, so be sure to slow down and drive carefully. 🅿 Parking - The parking lot at the main entrance costs CNY 10 per car, which is convenient and has relatively ample parking spaces. - There are free parking spaces below the reservoir stairs, but there are only 5–6 spots, first come, first served. If you're traveling on a weekend or holiday, it's recommended to leave early to snag a free spot. 🌳 Core Experience 1. Lakeside Hike: A loop around the lake takes about 50 minutes, and the slope is very gentle, making it easy for seniors and children alike. The scenery along the way is simply stunning. The blue-green lake is like a giant gem, surrounded by lush forests. You can also discover many surprises along the way, such as picking wild mushrooms (but don't eat them, just take pictures), and encountering a small waterfall, which is super photogenic! 2. Camping and Playing in the Water: There are many flat areas by the lake, perfect for setting up a canopy or tent for camping. However, there is no dedicated campsite here, so you need to bring all your own equipment. The water play area is downstream from the small waterfall, where the water flow is relatively gentle, making it ideal for wading and playing. Remember to wear non-slip shoes to avoid slipping and injury. In addition, open flames are prohibited here, so please be aware and take all your trash with you to protect the environment and keep the scenery beautiful. 3. Fishing: If you like fishing, don't miss out. You can fish here for free. Common fish include crucian carp and carp. Nearby Attractions: - New Year Picture Village: You can experience traditional New Year picture culture, admire exquisite New Year picture works, and even experience New Year picture making yourself, which is very interesting. - Rose Valley: In the rose blooming season, the mountains are covered with roses, and the fragrance of flowers is overflowing, making it super beautiful for taking pictures. 4. Nearby Route Combinations: - Easy Version (1-Day Trip): Taiping Reservoir + Golden Qingping Scenic Area (Fairytale Town), about 30 minutes' drive between the two places. Visit Taiping Reservoir in the morning and stroll around the Fairytale Town in the afternoon to experience a different atmosphere. - In-Depth Version (2-Day Trip): On the first day, go to Taiping Reservoir and enjoy the beauty of nature. On the second day, go to the Hanwang Earthquake Site to learn about that heavy history, and then go to Lutang Hot Spring to soak in a hot spring (especially recommended in autumn and winter) to relax and end your perfect trip. 📸 Photography Tips 1.
